2013 Headliners

You're wrong...he can play his songs in whatever way he likes. I, on the other hand, reserve the right not to like them. If I want to here Visions of Johanna like it is on Blonde on Blonde, I'll play the LP. If he chooses to play it in a bossa nova style, I may not like it, but it's completely his call. They are his songs and I accept his freedom to do what the fuck he likes with them

to a point i agree with you, but as has been said, he often plays them in an unrecognisable fashion. it's like if Leonardo da Vinci kept going back and changing the Mona Lisa after it was hung in a gallery. many would argue that he'd already created the definitive version of the painting but for one reason or another he insists on going back and painting over it

maybe to an artist like Dylan and his fans it's fine and has been accepted - he's been doing it for long enough - but i'd personally feel a bit iffed seeing these bizarre takes on known classics

Bob's fans have loyally supported him throughout these last 35 odd years of pricking around with his own back catalogue. I'm not the greatest fan of his, but the stuff I do like is on record. Doesnt strike me as that charismatic or "showy" a performer. Don't think I've heard many tales of people being blown away by him - on the contrary I've heard tales of people who're bigfans saying "I knew 3 songs from the gig."

I do like Bob's individuality. He really couldnt give a fiddlers. That selfishness as a performance can be endearing. I heard a boot of "Masters of War" and "Tangled up in Blue" from '98 that I liked. He made a bit of an effort in fairness.

The only person, not just performer, whos autobiography I've read and also watched the official documentary on and came out more confused (and intrigued) afterwards.

Also, just to be an arse re: the Mona Lisa above, the Mona Lisa is the most overrated piece of anything in the history of mankind.

granted i don't think he'd be a particularly suitable headline choice anymore, i think, given the extent of his contribution to music, it'd be wrong for him to play anything under sub. if leonard cohen can sub (and i mean this with absolutely no disrespect made to cohen, one of the greatest popular lyricists and songwriters of all time) then dylan certainly should

Where did I insult him? Please don't tell me you're one of these music fans that will defend their act to the death if anything is ever said about them?

I don't hate bob dylan, he's an amazing artist and he's written brilliant music. Saying he won't headline isn't me insulting him but it's just a fact, he won't headline.

If you're here to argue on a website forum, leave. Because it's not needed on here. It's a place where people can freely discuss who they think could or could not play the festival.

People like you are the people who ruin alot of websites.

Anyway i've said enough. Back to headliner discussion!

Sorry, but it was you that got n his high horse and decided that a discussion of Dylan wasnt appropriate for this thread. I frankly couldnt give a fuck whether you like Dylan or not - what I do object to is being told that I cannot discuss whatever subject I choose on here. It was you that was seeking to stop discussion, not me

And if you cant argue on a discussion forum, what can you do?

People like me? What the fuck is thatv supposed to mean? You know nothing about me..

In fact, I think you're right. Dylan wont headline. I dont want Dylan to headline. But he is hugely more deserving of a headline slot than all of the three currently being touted as favourites and saying so in this thread is entirely appropriate

    • Interesting to read. It's mostly why we stopped going a few years back even though it's the nearest big festival to home. The post-exams timing and location makes it a rites of passage first festival for people in a big area. Understandably that leads to a bit of giddiness. Think lineup would need to be a lot more my cup of tea to be enticed back. Friends who are there are having a good time tho and no rain is a good thing for up there.
    • I honestly didn't know it had, I still thought it was where the view overlooked the lake and view.   I think my decision not to attend this year at least was justified. Biffy was the big draw but after Finsbury I knew they wouldn't play what I want to hear again and well work also got in the way. Believed interesting to hear if Libertines were any good as they were also a pull but Sunday did nothing for me really with all my acts on Friday and Saturday.
