I reckon Plan B is a massive shout below Radiohead or The Stone Roses. I'd say Noel to headline other but can't see him taking that.

Radiohead

FATM

Chase and Status

The Stone Roses

Plan B

Daft Punk

The Rolling Stones

Bloc Party

The Black Keys

noel might take the Other, you know, I saw them here last week supporting the Cure and there really weren't many people there at all. I dunno, but I don't reckon they're that much of a draw.

(P.S The Cure were fuckign awful)

The more I go the less I care about the lineup really. Its not going to be Pink Floyd so I'll catch 3 or 4 "big" bands and spend the rest of the time drinking in the late night areas or catching the odd gig by some mad Arab punter round the West Holts or taking abuse from people (Mardy) at the Efests meet.

The big problem with the Cure headlining a festival is they had 175 minutes to fill (way to long, but that's another story) and they don't have enough diversity, enough songs with different tempo, enough showstopping moments. Decent enough for the first couple fo songs, then a big stodgy mess in the middle, then the third (godhelpme, the third!!) encore they pulled out the hits, everyone woke up and it was like a different gig.

Now, I know Nal's going to disagree with me here, and that's cool, but for a festival, even for a normal gig, I can't think of anyone who needs 175 minutes. it's too long, honestly. The current age believes that length = quality. It's why people making a film think it needs to be 2.5 hours long instead of 70 minutes, there's this conflagration between length and quality. Excitement and 'value' in concerts, it's not about length. Give me 35 minutes of the Mary Chain raising hell over a 2.5 hour 'workmanlike' set.

"I saw 'XXX' play last night"

"Oooh, how long did they play for?"

"it was great, 3 hours"

Utterly fuckign irrelevant.

(sorry Nal, love you man, but had to say my piece :))

Have they subbed it before? I can't remember or played 3rd? But I did put them 3rd in my current reply to a guy as I thought sub is too high, but I didn't know where to fit them in on Other Stage as surely they'd headline that?

Don't disagree actually mate. Good point. Theres only (maybe) 2 or 3 acts who could play for that long and keep me interested. I've never seen a festie act to play for longer than 2 1/2 hours I don't think.

The length/quality point is very valid. I've the same thing about albums. The early days of having to "fill" a CD produced some awful filler from good bands.

Seeing the Stone Roses next week and I'll be more than happy for a 70 minute gig. No interest in seeing them bang out b sides or over extended jams or whatever for the sake of it.

Obviously we're talking about personal perspective now, and from a fans point of view, but The Cure and Radiohead (you love it really Nal) would be two. I'll try and think of more when I can actually think of acts with enough consistently good material, i.e 7 or 8 records.

    • The wording on EOTR's IG Story is "Huw has a little secret to share"...
    • exactly. give them mordor slot when I have other alternatives, not Wednesday
    • Absolutely love her record, System. Definitely an album that rewards a bit of commitment.   She's right on my must-see list. Hoping she's in the Walled Garden, as I think her sound might be a bit muddy if she's early-ish in Far Out.   Ben
    • Same here, I kept trying to go on A View From My Seat to see if each block was worth it. So vague!
    • Ok, I’ve had time to process the experience now, so here is my review.   The good Barcelona - what a beautiful place! What lovely people! The city was like another headliner. Stayed in El Poblenou, and the bars, cafes and restaurants were perfect. Avalanches - Absolutely spectacular, euphoric set. Fantastic stage. Possibly enhanced by substances that I timed right, for a change. Added bonus that I don’t really remember the queue. The Cure - I’ve been a fan for 34 years, and never got round to seeing them, so this was a dream come true. The XX - The sound was exceptional. The lights and setlist perfect, giving each member their moment. Was really loud where I was standing (between the front and the sound desk), but i didn’t notice any chatters - even during the quieter moments. Also loved Men I Trust, .bd. , Big Thief, NewDad and Gorillaz. The food within Parc Del Fòrum was also a lot better than I was expecting.   The bad People talking non-stop throughout some of the sets, and shouting to be heard over the music. I had to move 3 times during Wet Leg just to be able to hear the band over the crowd. It’s probably an age thing, but I just don’t understand it. You’ve paid how much to watch these acts, and now you’re standing with your back to the stage, missing the music and ruining the experience for everyone else? Odd behaviour.   The weather apocalypse on Thursday. I genuinely thought I would be able to tough it out. I couldn’t. Left after Geese. The lack of communication from Primavera didn’t help.   Whilst it was lovely to be by the sea, and the sunsets were very pretty, the site is a bit…concrete-y, isn’t it? I kind of longed for some grass and trees. Often found ourselves standing on the steps by the Adidas yard by some bamboo. This was probably a subconscious need for some nature. The fact that some of the nature included cockroaches did not negatively affect the experience.   My daughter, for running away when she saw the drug dogs in the queue on Thursday, meaning that I lost her for the whole evening. She hid her stash under a bench, and it miraculously survived the storms.   Also, can someone explain the point in having a wristband, when you still have to show your ticket every time you enter and leave the site?   Finally, I would like to nominate myself as one of the bad things about this year’s Primabera. I should have done Primavera a lot better. It was my first one, so I’m still learning, but I think I left too early on the Thursday. Left after the Cure on Friday, so I would be full of energy on Saturday, and then barely made it to the end of Gorillaz anyway, meaning I missed Overmono, Skrillex, Skullcrusher, Kneecap, and a few more I would have liked to see.   All in all Amazing lineup. Decent food options. Cupra and Cupra Pulse stages were very impressive. Weather was perfect for 3 out of the 4 days i attended.   It was always likely to be a ‘one and done’ for me, but we had a blast, even if I am starting to get too old for all this.
