Camper van field opening times

Yes it's official........ The festival office themselves have replied to my email to say........... The campervan fields WILL be open from 1200 on the Tuesday like last year!!!!!!

So at least (hopefully) we will be there set up beer in hand BBQ on for Tuesday evening!!

We got there just after midday last year with our trailer tent and it worked really well. Lots of time for a gentle set up, a good night's sleep and ready to hit the festival first thing Wednesday. This year (CV tickets permitting) we'll be taking the trailer tent and hiring a motorhome for the other half of our gang.

It's very frustrating though that we can't buy the CV tickets yet because we've had to enter into the motorhome hire agreement even though we're not sure that we'll have a CV field ticket.

Glad I bought a smile to some faces!! I almost gave up seeing as I e mailed them over a month ago!!!!!!!

Best pop down to bargain booze round the corner from me who sell brothers cider might buy a couple to celebrate thus good news after a pretty shitty week!!!!

That is exactly why we bought a caravan Grumpyhack, the thought of packing everything away like you have to in a campervan/motorhome to nip to the shops/beach etc. I have made ours home from home and it takes us about 2 hours too by the time the awning is up and decorated! And luckily we can store it at home.

We were a 2 caravan and 1 campervan convey last year. The stewards tried to separate the campervan from us and make it park elsewhere. Luckily I stepped in and made her see sense so be warned and be assertive if this happens!! Made a nice camp by turning 1 carvan round so awnings faced and parked the camper lengthways awning to awning almost like a windbreak!

Would have been a complete nightmare not to be together as the cooking and toilet facilities were lacking in the campervan (and they were newbies) so the plan was to use the caravans between us all.

Campervan lovers will probably disagree but I'm not that impressed with campervans. I borrowed a VW with a pop top from a friend a couple of years ago to go to the Trowbridge Festival and discovered that it was little more than a small tent on wheels. You had to pack the bed away before you could do anything and it felt very claustrophobic.

However, parked next to our campervan was a trailer tent and we were so impressed we bought one the next year for £1,200. It's great, has two double bedrooms that stay as bedrooms and an awning extension that's 20ft x 12 ft which is a great social area, with a cooking area. It has a two burner stove, sink and cupboard unit that clips onto the back of the trailer for travelling.

The other advantage is that if you are staying somewhere you can detach the car that tows it and drive off for the day without having to pack everything away. No insurance and, luckily I've got mother-in-law's garage to store it in over winter.

It takes about two hours to fully set up or take down so isn't as useful as a campervan if you are just doing an overnight stop. But when you are staying somewhere for almost a week like Glasto it's got the edge in my book.

depends what you've got/hired mate. We hire a motorhome, so have a fixed double bed, fixed kitchen and seperate bathroom. Really couldnt knock it last year.

Last year we hired a classic VW campervan. Not a pop top and had a rock and roll bed. It was too cramped and a pain in the arse having to roll bed up each morning to access cupboards etc!!

However this year we're going full hog 6 berth motorhome with shower, toilet and fridge that runs off bottle gas!

As well as our own trailer tent we're hiring a classic motorhome. It's a 20 year old Peugeot Talbot Autostratus but fully refurbished and in immaculate condition. Sleeps four and has been converted to LPG. Toilet, shower, hot water (heated by LPG). £350 for the week

Tuesday set up last year was brilliant. We encountered no traffic the whole way, just drove straight onto the site. It makes the Wednesday so much better, lazy lie in, cooked brekkie, then stroll down the site when the queues have died down a bit
