Fall out boy?

I heard from someone who seems to get quite a lot of these predictions right because his dad's like a producer or something. I know its sort of my friends cousins dads best friend situation, but he told me that Fall out Boy would be making a return for R&L.

He said they would be headlining the NME stage on the saturday (reading) which im a bit skeptikal about because i would think they were too big for NME.

Thoughts?

The last three fall out boy albums charted in the uk at 12, 3 and 39. The last three manics charted at 2,3 and 3 despite the fact they are past their commercial peak. Manics have sold more albums, sold more singles and headlined more festivals in the uk than fall out boy. If manics can headline the tent then there is no way fall out boy are too big for the same slot.

The last time fall out boy played they were 4th headliners which is par with tent headliners. If manics played the main stage again they would be no lower than 4th. So this idea that fall out boy are much bigger in the uk doesnt hold with me. If you feel ticket sales is a better way of judging then fair enough, but where is the evidence that manics have sold less tickets than fall out boy in the last few years. Just because a band last did an arena tour, does not mean they have sold more tickets. If fall out boy had played twice the amount of dates on their last tour they probably wouldn have done an arena tour as the demand wouldnt have been there.

The main factor is simply predicting how many people will be interested in seeing them. Previous album sales, previous tour sales, importance and quality combine to make up that judgement but no single one of those can be seriously used to justify a placing.

It's all down to relevance, positioning. If a band headline it's because it makes sense. It made sense for Arcade Fire to get the headline last year. They subbed '07, and released a massive album, and were huge in Readings eyes. Fall Out Boy, although bigger than Manic Street Preachers, are nothing as a Reading headliner. They represent nothing that Reading wishes to, and they just don't have the power to. Manics are a much bigger force than FOB, and I'm aware I'm using buzzwords galore, but it's really hard to explain.

ahahaha, what?

You have to account for MUCH more than popularity in headliners, that's why we don't get the same situation every year a la TITP...

The Rules + regs say that anybody under the age of 16 must be companied by somebody over the age of 18, taking into consideration that the average age of fall out boy fans must be around 14/15. they won't have anybody watching them as there not allowed in :)

Sorted.

Put it this way, if the manics were to be announced as main stage headliners for this year there wouldn't be many who would complain about it. Nobody can deny they are an important and iconic band in the UK, the set they could put together would probably go den as one of the best of all time.

If fob were announced as main stage headliners the uproar would be huge. Some bands have the image FR are looking for and some don't. I think fob could easily headline the NME, they have had manics, lost prophets, faith no more, pendulum headline in the last 3 year all who would compare in size to fob in my opinion.
