How is it better than the last one? Which tracks are better than Closer, Crawl, Sex On Fire (overplayed but still a good song), Be Somebody (cheesy but I still think better than the best of this album, namely Mary or Radioactive) or Cold Desert?

First listen I think it's better than obtn, few songs sound like they could have made it on the older (better) albums but I still think they're lacking that special something youth and young manhood and aha had.

it lacks any edge, any point. there is no driving force, just another album to put under their belt with no point being made, the songs blend meaninglessly into each other with absolutley no stand out moments

absolutley heartbreaking to see what has happened to them, the whole thing just lacks any form of creativity

I hate the fact that their musical decline has coincided with their mega-success as it seems like I'm being a snob.

Reserve judgement on it til you have had atleast 4 or 5 plays of the album. I thought it sounded very poor at first, but after listening to it properly, i absolutely love it and cannot stop playing it. Its a brilliant album. A lot of people who are expecting an album full of anthems will be jumping off the bandwagon very quickly as it is not like that. I think they have done this intentionally and fair play to them. They're gonna get stick due to the huge commercial success of their last album, but i think they're trying to move away from that in my opinion. The cynics will disagee, but hearing Caleb describe Sex on fire as 'a piece of shit that he wishes he never wrote', i can see why this album is a lot more chilled. I fookin love it!!!

the problem with only by the night was that the singles were massively overplayed which quickly made me bored of it and i simply cannot listen to that album anymore, i think crawl is the only track on there which creates some excitement in me

still like the kings though, just wish they played more of the first three albums in their setlists

It's worth a listen. I didn't buy Only By The Night after the first few listens even though it's an ok record with some great songs like Cold Desert, this one threw up a surprise and is without a doubt a growe. There are some great tunes and it works as a collection of songs. Granted some of the lyrics are rubbish but as an overall sound I think it's great. I bought it as well.

What if they have just become really boring and don't really want to make you pick up the guitar thats gathering dust on it since the last band that really inspired you

I am half way through, I am quite bored I am barely listening now

It is getting better every listen but I still find myself getting bored somewhere in the middle and not really paying attention after that.

And it's not a case of not liking them because they have become popular, its because they have become immensely boring and repetitive, the talent is obvious but the soul and passion got lost somewhere along the way...

This album starting to grow on me, I've given it a really good listen after hating OBTN I thought I should give it a fair go. That said it no where compares to YAYM which is in my opinion their best album and having been a fan since the beginning I feel slightly sad that they seam to have lost their edge. I live in hope that they'll get it back. All that said they are one hell of a live band even if they don't play enough of the old stuff!
