Download 2011

I have a feeling next year could be similar to the 2008 "year of lesser headliners". Considering the ammount spent on AC/DC, I think it's entirely feasable we could be seeing some first time headliners.

Linkin Park have a new album out next month, but haven't played Reading/Leeds since 2003, so could well end up there instead.

There's a chance Blink 182 will have a new album out by then so they could play Download to promote that.

In terms of bands waiting in the wings, I just can't see the likes of: Paramore, Biffy Clyro, A7X, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium etc. Being able to pull in the punters (paramore are arguably big enough, but Download isn't really their audience)

In terms of 1st timers I'd love to see Stone Sour or Machine Head given the nod over the above, but it seems unlikely unless their new albums do alot better than expected.

I wouldn't be against Nickelback, bit of a guilty pleasure and I've never seen them live - and supposedly they are pretty damn good live.

what about muse or red hot chili peppers?? i know theyre not metttalll #makes devil horns sign# but we're going to run out of bands pretty quick if we are going to be narrow-minded in who is or is'nt a 'download headliner'

Hi guys, I wonder whether some of you could help me with info for Download. I have never been to Download before and am trying to gather support amongst my friends for next year. We normally do Hyde Park, but there was enough rock bands on for me this year. Can anybody help me with the following? When are tickets normally released? When are the first bands normally announced? What are facilities like for camping? Some of my little gang like their hotel comforts at Hyde Park, and are worried about not showering for days. So is there enough shower facilities? What is roughly the cost for camping including tickets? Any other info you can help with would be very much appreciated. Thank you!!

Thanks for that. I am happy to rough it but gotta persuade some of my friends about the scarcity of showers. We already got a tent the size of a country mansion, so that should sleep about 10 of us and we live in the Midlands anyway so getting there is not a problem. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

My friend was adamant that she heard Serj on the radio about a fortnight ago saying that SOAD will headline Download next year. But considering no one else on the internet seems to have heard this interview I'd take that with a pinch of salt!

    • Thanks so much - that's very helpful. Someone else mentioned getting a train from Loughborough to East Midlands Parkway, and then a festival shuttle from there to the site. I think they were then going to come back on the Skylink Derby to Loughborough - I assume this is because the trains don't run as late as the Skylink, otherwise they would just come back the same way they came?! Is the transport hub a long way from the main stage? Just wondering what time I would need to leave Linkin Park to be sure of getting a shuttle. As I say, I am sure it will all be clear on the day, even after a few beers! Just hope the rain stays away...
    • I really don't think they would put Olivia Rodrigo on Occident stage. If it was her, they would put her in earlier Mordor slot and move Big Thief or Little Simz to Occident.   Fontaines DC are more probable, but don't really match the hype. However, again, if the hype was real, the artist would end up in Mordor.   That being said, I would love to see Fontaines DC tonight.
    • After all the good advice on here I had a nice visit to the site earlier in the week.    Walked down from Pilton village to Hitchen Hill and down the footpath to the Wood by Woodies.    Really strange seeing the site empty of 100,000 people. There is far more hedges and woodland on the site than you remember when the festival is on. Can see the stone circle and some structures still up on site. And looks like Worthy View has some camping going on there during the summer too.   Lots was fenced off with electric fencing to help wth the cattle grazing. Is really amazing how they set up the site as its hard enough accessing the area by car and foot nevermind all the kit needed to set the festival up. As others said you can't walk the whole site but nice to see the site again after a few years away   Pilton is also a lovely village with a nice village hall shop and post office attached, and got to speak to some locals who told me a few tales of past festivals down the years. One house for sale there would be lovely to live in - if only I had £2 million going spare
    • 6music just shared a video of all of Fontaines DC singing along to the Cure last night. It'll be them. Booooo    Olivia might get up for I Love You though...
