Is anyone really that shocked? If any of you did or still do play football i am sure you swore, whether it be at scoring an amazing goal or anger at a player.

If you shove a microphone in the face of a footballer in the middle of the day during an important match you are hardly gonna get something toned down.

We have all lip-read harsher swearing when watching football on TV.

since he got away withthe elbow fergie has had 5 match ban for being honest, the most obsurd penalty descision at chelsea, now rooneys ban.

it's deilberately swearing, and in a very angry manner in front of a potential audience of millions. though obviously all the coverage has increased the amount of people knowing about it.

course it's not the worst offence in the world but the guys a clown. you just can't do that when you're a role model to millions of kids around the world. though as i said before, banning would be ridiculous!

you can say that the camera man is in his face all you want, but he's hardly confronting him or looking for a fight. the only one in the wrong here is rooney. yet all the man utd fans who were cursing his name earlier in the season are now defending him. crazy!

it's just the context though. swearing at some opposition player in a one to one is not the same as approaching a camera in an aggressive manner and saying f**k about 3 times. the guys a bellend. it's not as if he doesn't have previous.

there would be a minimum fine. wage would only come into it if you exceeded a set amount.

doesn't mean a part timer at mcdonalds can do 120mph and only get fined £40

A lot of people seem to be saying they disagree with what he has done but think a ban is too harsh. If your not going to ban someone then the worst you can do is fine them. This is no deterrant for a multi millionaire like rooney, unless it is an obscene amount which you never see. Fergie gets fined all the time for not attending press conferences, he doesnt bother paying them. The only way for a punishment to act as a deterrant is to make sure there is a negative impact on both player and club.

It wasnt just the swearing that caught my eye but the agression behind it. At present he looks like a timebomb waiting to explode. People say its unfair that because he is a high profile player he gets picked on, however he is more than happy to cash in on the advantages of being a high profile player, you have to take the advanatages and the disadvantages. Also if he is hard done by in this case, over the years he has probably had more leniency from referees than any other player. There are occasions where you have looked at his behaviour on the pitch and thought if evil villains diouf and barton had done the same thing they would have been treated far harsher but passionate wazza has got away with a telling off.

Agreed he is a known offender, in my opinion something should have been done about it much sooner. If he keep getting suspensions for doing it, he will soon stop. I support a ban as its part of the game I dont like and feel its the best way of stopping it. My only hope is that its done consistently and not just in big media cases.

I think its a good punishment. Bans are by far the most effective form of punishment. If the FA really care about this Respect campaign then they need to start showing it, and this is a good start. He's a stupid, rude, ugly, arrogant twat.

I know its a cliche, but these guys really are role models for the kidz and its such a pathetic example to show them. If they want the big bucks then they need to start taking responsibility for their behaviour. After all, its the sky subscribers who help pay his wages. f**king prick.

rooney is in the wrong here. not sky. cameraman wasn't taunting him for a reaction as you seem to be suggesting. if the camera zooms into diouf and the camera gets grogged on, is that skys fault for approaching him?

People complained about the use of language being broadcast in the middle of the day, they should not of had the microphone on. All you are gonna hear at a moment like that is. "f**k Yeaaaaaaaa" "You Beauty" "f**king get in!!" etc........
