Glastonbury virgin! So...can you tell me what's the fuss about?

I bought my ticket because my twin sister has been 3 times and tells me that it's amazing. I was always jealous when I saw TV footage but didn't think I could 'do' a festival for several reasons. However, once I'd conquered the toilets (pushed into one before entering the site) I was fine! I learnt to hold my nose and breathe through my mouth...or better still...didn't breathe at all for the duration!

My sister tells me you just can't describe Glastonbury until you're there...

V was good but then I have nothing to compare it to.

Everyone has pretty much summed it up. if you get the chance, you should try and meet some of us efesters at on of the numerous meets during the festival, i was nervous to meet everyone at first, but then once me and the wife did, we have made strong friends from it, and had some very very crazy ideas when drunk, that seem to have born fruit ;-) but thats what it can do, it brings out the best in people and gets the creative juices flowing

the main thing is enjoy

The mud in some places last year was ridiculous, I saw at least 5 different mud wrestling matches. I think that's what made it so good though, that no one gave a sh't how muddy it was, they were making the most of it.

Amen to that sister x My first was 2008, but I spent my teenage, twenties and early thirties constantly saying 'I wish I was at Glastonbury' !!?!?!?!! Why I didn't look into it and BUY A TICKET I'll never know ...

Once you've walked up to the stone circle on a Wednesday and looked back at the place, you'll never forget that feeling. Must be the leylines or something.

A few years back I swam with dolphins and you get a talk before you go in the water. One of the things we were told is that once a dolphin comes over to you, you'll involuntarily get this huge cheesy grin that spreads from one side of your face to the other.

Every year I walk through the gates into Glasto and the exact same thing happens.

Anyway, where else can you sit on a bench at 2am chatting to a smashed skinhead who is wondering just how to explain to his father who is with him at the festival with why he's wearing a dress, all while watching a band on a tiny stage through the window.

I do hope that I fall in love with Glastonbury. I love music that's for sure. I also love busy places and people watching. I'm guessing that Glastonbury is a great place to do this?!

Has anyone got any Glastonbury virgin tips/advice for me? What to take/not take etc!

At my first Glastonbury (2007) we got there on the Thursday morning, and some friends of a friend very kindly managed to reshuffle their tents around to let us squeeze our four tents in in Pennards (no mean feat!). It was first thing in the morning as well so they wouldn't have been in bed for very long before we arrived.

As we were pitching our tents and stressing/arguing about how to put the big one up they wandered off so I thought oh god we've really annoyed them. About 20 minutes later they returned with bacon butties for all ten of us and said it was their treat! At that moment I realised that it was highly likely that I was going to love Glastonbury. I'm completely obsessed with the place.

I hope everyone going for the first time this year posts back afterwards and tells us what they thought.

Glastonbury is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way to the burger van @ V, but that's just peanuts compared to Glastonbury.

It was? When did it rain? I can never remember the wettenings ever.

In 08 I was dancing like a loon in the uber rain on the Arcadia Stage on the Thursday night...only thing that was upsetting me was my Hot & Spicy became Tepid & Nasty and forgetting to put me gaiters on cos my boots then stayed wet for the rest of teh fest. Doh!

I REALLY dont remember it raining last year except for the funny part when we were all in the CT tipi as the 1am storm started (and the air filled with screams! ) and then just getting caught in the 5am downpour but we were back in the tipi minutes later.

When did it rain before then? I recall a storm on Thursday while at the bus.
