Not Welcome ...

Which acts do you believe aren't welcome at Glastonbury. Or is everybody given a chance ?

I mean this in terms of bands/performers who are not welcome in the first place, or have performed before, and wont be asked back.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but i did a search and didnt find anything.

Would you really want bands/artists giving these kind of negative views/opinions/statements from any of the stages in Glasto? (or any other fests for that matter) I wouldn't, it would spoil my weekend. I'm not saying people aren't entitled to their own views/opinions (that would be fascist in itself) I'm just saying it would go against the whole vibe and ethos of Glasto

Well I wouldn't want to spoil your weekend, as I say we need a full list of things you don't like so we can ensure you only hear nice positive lyrics/ statements while you're on site. Seriously, it's time you accepted that other people have differing views to yourself (sometimes outrageously different) and accept you have to hear different opinions in order to come to an opinion of your own. Censorship is not good even if you think you are 'protecting' people. (This attitude implies people are not capable of reaching a sensible conclusion by themselves). And this attitude banned the common ground cafe from the festival.

I'm sure that bands who peddle particularly extreme racist views, eg National Front/BNP/Combat 18 types wouldn't be welcome, don't know about anything else. Michael Eavis isn't keen on heavy metal, so while they're not exactly banned, they're probably on an 'unlikely to play' list somewhere.

Don't treat me like a f88king simpleton - i'm not! I completly understand the logic behind your argument/viewpoint and if you look at one of my earlier statements I said that people are entiltled to their viewpoints - whether I agree with them or not but I don't need to hear the opinions of say a Racist in order to not be Racist myself, i'm just naturally not that way inclined but I come across people in everyday life who in my opinion (is that word ok for you?) are narrow minded negative pricks and I go to Glasto and other fests to (I would hope) get away from them and be with like minded more accepting people for a few days

OK well, I'll be there this year (again) so hopefully I'm sufficiently like minded and we'll have a good festival, don't think you're a simpleton, think your initial statement (althought lighthearted) was justifying censorship, and personally think thats bad (and that's MY opinion) :P

Ok :P hopefully we're cool? not on here to rant and rave at everyone :P I don't think my initial statement was justifying censorship in the broader sense cos I kinda see where you're coming from on that that score, as I said earlier I just think it would spoil/go against the vibe/ethos of Glasto but like I said rant and rave over

Peace :P

To be fair I did not think his statement was wrong..

There are some subjects that are off limits... those mooted by our poster as well as other ones..

If a band came out in support of whaling I would be f**king livid, or if they spouted crap about how the west bank should be built on...

Glasto is very tolerant of opinion, however there are limits...

Whilst I respect your freedom of opinion and would not stop you exercising it, I would challenge you on subjects that are seen as minority based and not for the common good.....

It would be interesting to see what would happen if a band came on and spouted crap in support the BNP...

I am not sure if you remember the bad old days of Reading with bottle fights, but that could be repeated with the crowd at Glasto if extreme views are aired...

However to date I have not witnessed anything like that... except at Reading when Meatloaf started going on about beating up boyfriends if they through bottles at him...

Cue life of Brian stoning sketch and replace with meatloaf....

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
