i saw the pigeon detectives in the queens head tent in 2008 and they were brilliant, again very high energy. Think the performance much suited the smaller enlosed gigs cos they werent the same on the other stage the same year.

I'm not sure what people were expecting, but I enjoyed Fleet Foxes, great voices, made a bit of banter that the crowd didn't 'get' at the start. I think that put them on edge a bit though and they didn't say much after that. But they played the songs really well.

They're a band that need to be properly 'listened' to. They might have been the wrong place on the Pyramid with people around me talking over the top of them in the quieter bits.

Very possibly, but I thought the material from the 2nd album slowed the gig down somewhat too.

I saw them in Wolverhampton in late 07/early 08 (can't remember exactly when) and they were a bit 'meh'. So they've got steadily worse the more I've seen them. Maybe they're mellowing?

I was disappointed too to be honest. The things I'd heard about Macca being such an important part of rock music history. I think there was quite a lot of hype. But all he did was play cover versions of old Beatles numbers! What was that all about? Hasn't he got any of his own material?

If I want a Beatles tribute band, I'll watch the Bootleg Beatles.

I predict noone is going to agree with me but Madness last year didn't excite me really. I went cause my Mr Madspaceangel wanted to go and I left half way through. I just couldn't get into it, something didn't feel right.

Their performance before Oasis was terrible, IMO. They looked nervous, said incredibly little and really didn't get the crowd going. When I saw them in the States last year I was much more impressed with their show.

Whether you think that their more recent (much more commercially successful) releases aren't as good as the old stuff is obviously down to you.

I've got tickets to see them perform the whole of Screamadelic in Novemeber. I really really really hope they can pull it off but I fear it is going to be woeful.

caught massive attack on the other stage as well and agree it wasnt the best, however i've since seen the performance on dvd and it comes accross much better than it felt it would standing 100 metres away from them on stage !

had a laugh the next morning, the sentiment about them being poo was obviously not just my opinion as the t-shirt shop opposite had some specially printed t-shirts proclaiming "why were massive attack so shi* last night" bit like this years "i was at glasto when jacko died"

Pronghorn at Club Dada last year. Thought it would be a good starter for the festival, but left half way through (along with most of the back of the tent) bored s**tless.

I forgot about Massive Attack. Man they were truly abysmal! Was so pissed off. Had always loved that band but that just turned it for me!

Missed Jay Z as a result but heard that wasn't actually as good as everyone said!

Most surprisingly good act was the Maccabees in the Guardian tent last year. Amazing and been hooked on them ever since! Hoping they get a slot this year.

What act has surprised others?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
