Have you read the Wireless facebook page? When LCD Soundystem were announced as headliners all the members got really angry because it wasn't Eninem :P

I can imagine what it would be like if someone like Pixies got announced. You'd get comments like "Who da fuk r these dicks?". It would be brilliant.

HRC has a bloody brilliant set of headliners, better than Glastonbury I'd say (but only just). It doesn't seem to have that much else going for it though.

Hopefully we get Pearl Jam under Muse or something, unlikely but it could happen.

Pj before Muse would be a great couple of hours on the pyramid (perhaps with The

m Crooked’s before them)…but if egos were involved, PJ might not see themselves playing below a band like Muse. Stones, Stevie, U2, maybe but not muse. Only in the UK could Muse be above Pearl Jam without raising eyebrows

I’d love for it to happen. a bit too hopeful though...

Been thinking that for quite a while, esp as Sat is only day pearl jam could play (perhaps a ‘Sat’ next to the current Pearl Jam ‘rumour’ would be nice). And earlier in the evening would enable them to get to France/Holland or wherever it is they’re playing on the Sunday.

Someone else posted a while back with no proof that Ed Ved was doing a stripped-down solo slot, which seems more reasonable given the less preparation req'd for that, but then again that poster might have been the same person who suggested Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers were playing.

There was a story that went round that ME banned "heavy" bands because of the Roskilde tragedy - and PJ were playing that festival at the time of the tragedy. Based on that, I though concensus was they'd never play?

I still have a little inkling we might get a full Pearl Jam set somehow, I'm sure they could do 3 days in a row just once... it is Glastonbury after all :P

I don't - I think they're one of the least likely bands to play at Glastonbury at any time.

What happened at Roskilde, while not really PJ's fault, clearly got to Michael Eavis just as it got PJ. But whereas PJ had to carry on much as they were or give up, there's more options open to Michael, and while it might be fair enough to consider the risks of an incident while they're playing as very minimal, it's still a risk that Michael has no need to take.

And unlike other promoters he'd be looking out onto the scene of any incident every day. I think that aspect is likely to be of huge relevance to how he'd consider whether he might want to take that risk.

but looking at the crowd in front of the stage in that video (above), and then add a muddy (slippery) field, and you have a potential repeat of what happened at Roskilde...

you can't really say it had nothing to do with them... they were on stage at the time, and it was their fans that got crushed

still nothing to do with them though. far rowdier bands have far rowdier crowds resulting in nothing. the difference is surely the safety procedures and what is used for crowd control.

it's a combination of circumstances which brings something like that about.

One of those circumstances is the band who is playing, another is how the crowd that's watching reacts.

While safety measures can lessen the possibility of something going horribly wrong, there's still always the chance that something could go wrong.

From what Michael's said in the past, I'd be surprised if he's prepared to accept the risk - if for no other reason than he doesn't have to. He doesn't want people to die on his farm from anything he's had a hand in (which would be the case with a band he's chosen to put on), and he can avoid that happening by not booking the band.

Of course, he might have changed his mind over time, just as PJ have done - they originally said they wouldn't play festivals ever again, and it was many years until they did do.

But who would blame him if he hadn't? Who'd want to have that on their hands when there's the easy option to swerve it?

yeah i can see where he is coming from. but then say it happened to radiohead this year (radiohead incidently where i felt less safe than in a pearl jam crowd), would he close the door on them?

personally, i'm not too arsed about it. if pearl jam don't care anyway. i've seen them in a great crowd, will hopefully be seeing them in a great crowd in july and to be honest, i dunno how great a glasto crowd would be for pearl jam.

    • Christ didn't even see that!
    • It does feel very bland. It would certainly spell another year (my third, I think) away from Pyramid headliners for me. That doesn't mean they aren't worthy, though. I don't follow what any of them are up to, as it isn't my thing. Good luck to them.   You would think coming off a fallow year, they would want one big hitter. 'Big hitter' is obviously open to debate, but that was/is Madonna. Let's have it right. The eggs have gone in that basket, and it seems (as far the rumours go) that it's blown up. So now you're left with another plan B/replacement headliner.   I'm still of the opinion that Oasis will do it, before the Oasis thing is all said and done. Probably 2028, if they can come to an agreement. It may transpire that 2027 is bland (or at least to some of us), and 2028 is a bit... wild.   Again, though, none of us categorically know ANY of the headliners, as it stands.
