I don't get the whole thing about the 'free spirit of glastonbury' being changed by 'too many rules'. Times have changed and we DO NOT have the same sort of culture as they had in years gone by, Glastonbury simply would not work without rules. The wishy washy 'no rules' brigade seem to think people these days adhere to the same morals as those years ago, not so.

In 20 years, people won't mind about these sorts of things we'll be complaining about digital tickets or something. The people that do are from past generations and long for 'the old days'.

So that's a good thing is it? I feel really sorry my grand kids - the world they are going to inherit is going to be a so sterile and regulated that "fun" is going to be hard to come by, unless Officially Approved. And we are letting it happen. It was the dick heads crashing the fence that started the ball rolling at Glastonbury, yet now they regard themselves as some sort of heros. It's a sad world.

Banning flags would be 'regulated fun'? Fact is too many flags spoil peoples entertainment. Who has the right to do this? Nobody. Last time I looked there were lots of underagers drinking, people taking illegal drugs etc etc the things that need controlled are things that effect others enjoyment, fence jumpers and flags included. Other 'regulated fun' doesn't have any impact on others. People will still have plenty 'unregulated fun', there just has to be certain rules are applied so that ALL punters can get maximum entertainment. I see no problem at all with this.

You were suggesting that rules for everything is inevitable and good, which I obviously disagree with. There is no need to ban flags - just don't turn the sound on until they are all down. That might be a "rule" in a sense, but it is self-policing - no one needs dragging out of the crowd, no stewards required, no unpleasantness - except for the terminally stupid who don't lower their flag.

How can anyone look at these pictures and say they prefer it with the flags?? I want to see the acts. If I just wanted to listen I could turn on the radio.

Ok first things first -

I'm disabled, wheelchair bound and I come to festivals to watch artists and entertainers not flags. I adore seeing all the flags things around (even being carried in the roads) but please not in front of the stages.

If I try the helpful suggestion of moving closer - well thats just a safety nightmare and besides at the level the chair puts me if I strain my neck I'd see sholders (which is painful with my condition) so I see arses (not the flag carriers!). Events provide us with a safe elevated platform - so we can see performers not flags

The last time I chanced getting close I came away with a broken nose and night in the hospital fearing conscusiion - oh yes and the person that caused it giving me a mouthful that I shouldn't be there as it wasn't safe and it wasn't his fault as I shouldn't have been there

Second point - The I Love Sausage flag is actually an advert for one of the sausage sellers that was on site. The sold from a pitch in Shangri-La in 2009. So not only was "he" annoying folk, but getting BBC / TV rights for his brand. If ppl think he was following, chances are there was more than one of them. Other vendors on the site know this and i'd guess several are now thinking of following suit this year. If something isnt done the BBC will be doing free adverts for half the retailers on site this year all to Stevie Wonders next great hit.

If it gets any worse the chances are the resale rights of the video feed will drop to next to nothing, the beeb wont pay anywhere near what they are paying now and GFL will find that money by hiking the ticket prices up....... then we all pay more to see more flags... is that what we really want???????

If those people really need markers, well I'm sure glastonbury can provide a few official markers that say pyramid stage and have them in different colours to help you navigate back.

If there must be flaggers at the stage can we pen them into a small area off to one side - a flagging zone and a non-flagging zone

Every single person has a right to a chance to see the stage, we all pay good cash.

I hope the festival sees sense, asks for no flags in front of the stage during performances. backs it up with on screen messages and gets the artists to also play along and stop the set should flags start to rise.... we are there fans after all and I for one want to see them and how they use the stage

thank you for taking the time to read my point

Have any of the people that have posted here actually contacted Glastonbury Festival to complain about the flags?

My guess would be that if they received as many complaints as I have read here then they might address the problem.

So everybody complain to Glasto please, by email : [email protected]

I sent them an email the other day and just got this reply.....

Thanks for your comments about the flags. Yours is one of many points of view being considered.

We all have to wait and see what is finally decided, but what is clear we will not be able to satisfy all of the people irrespective of the decision.

A difficult one!

I can live with people thinking i have a poor memory, esp as i add comments on here kinda regularly.

You were right, it was you & i was wrong. Either way, this isn't a big issue.

Congratulations, i'm sure you feel vinicated. I however have other things to contend with (as we all do), possibly a reason for the bad memory.

As stated, you were right in the end & im sure you feel vindicated.

    • Brazil's first half was genuinely dreadful all round, not just the midfield, so they're absolutely not bulletproof. Whether Scotland have the quality to take advantage is a different question.   Tbf, that's as much on Morocco looking good, which I did think was a possibility. They could be a bit annoyed with themselves not to have scored more before Vini's goal tbh.
    • Surely nowadays with so much data analytics available on every division in world football and so much awareness that people aren't suckered in on the basis of a decent World Cup game... right?   Although tbf, from what I saw, Australia's game plan worked very well. But that was as much thanks to Turkey blowing varying opportunities given they created enough chances but couldn't finish, a la what happened with Switzerland against Qatar when they really could and should've won by 3/4 goals.
    • I missed Viagra Boys for a good spot for Gorillaz. Was a nice weekend and festival for me. Would definitely come back, if the line up is right. Get back home safe everyone.
    • The Last Temptation - new Heaven 17 documentary film directed by James Strong. Premiered at Sheffield Docfest this weekend.    I really enjoyed it. Affectionate, insightful, and honest. A nice mix of archival and footage, interviews and clips from the last tour. Martyn and Glenn are like an old married couple.   Plus a snippet of news from the Q&A, Martyn is recording new BEF material, and Phil Oakey has collaborated on the one of tracks. The film shows them meeting in Fagans for the first time in over 35 years.
