I would never miss a fest I wanted to go to because my mates didn't wanna go. I decided last minute to go to Rockness 07 on my own, managed to find the E Fest camp, met some great mates and my girlfriend and had the best weekend ever. Even if I wasn't at an E Fest camp etc... I'd quite happily find a spot, set my tent up and get talking to my neighbours. I've spent many a fest just wandering around by myself and sometimes you can have the best times just sitting absorbbing the atmosphere by yourself.

So just go. If you need a glasto friend you'll find one on here. :P

I actually want to go to a festival alone! Never tried it but I never get the chance to either! Think I might do Glade alone this year though, none of my mates have heard of it and it's fecking miles from where I stay so that will put plenty off :P HERE I COME!

Glastonburys great on your own. I'm sure I posted about my first day there a few weeks ago. You wonder around, speak to randoms and generaly have a great time.

Speak to stall holders at Greenfields, grab a t-shirt good crack in the queu there. Then met friends from up north a few times. I loved every minute.

I've only ever been to festivals with people something like 4 times in 14 years of doing them. One of which was, tbf, brilliant, the other 3 were really annoying. Even the time that was good was a bit annoying until i sacked the people off and got some time by myself.

Being by yourself at festivals leave you so much more free to see the things you want to, meet new people, do random things. I always feel kind of sorry when I see, say, 5 people arguing over which out of 5 different bands they're going to go and see together next. Added to the hassle of "i'll meet you back here at x time" and so on, it's just not worth it.

So, yes. Go by yourself. Camp with lovely e-fests people. If somehow you don't like any of them, then wander the site and meet new people. You've got 180,000 or so to choose from.

i went to rockness myself in 2007 and just camped at efest. i met my boyfriend there and it was a great weekend. i'd go to a festival myself again and camp at efest, it means there's people there that you can hang about with but you can go see bands on your own if you want.

After years of being frustrated by accomodating others wishes or not finding people who wanted to go, I gave in a started going by myself, and it's the best festival decision I've ever made. As everyone says, having complete freedon to see and do what you want at Glastonbury is a fairly unbeatable weekend.

With regards setting up tent, that is probably the hardest bit. Not that it's difficult to set up a tent, but you feel like a bit of a freak, and not everyone at Glastonbury is as instantly welcoming to a weirdo with no mates as the people on here. Not that they're rude or anything, but if you don't talk to them they'll probably spend the whole weekend weighing up whether or not you're a thief, and when you're packing up on the last day and people realise all their stuff is in tact, you'll finally get a proper firendly conversation out of your neighbours, by which point it's a bit late!

It probably helps that I'm a bit older, I can't imagine solo festivalling in my teens/early 20's as I would have been too self-conscious. And with regards your neighbours, I think you have to make an effort to make the first move if being friends with them matters to you.

I have done a few festivals on my own now. Even Glasto although I go with my mates I spend a lot of time on my own.

Glastonbury is a soul finding experience anyhow, on your own its a massive life, self fulfilling experience. In the crowd talk to your neighbour, get on well try & meet again, the rare occasion you don't like who your talking to just say you have to go to another stage. Talk about music, festivals, gigs & life changing experiences.

Last of all

Have a great bloody time!!!!

Last yr my mate who I'd travelled down with had to leave on Thursday morning cos of family stuff, leavin me on my own the whole weekend. And you know what? It was bloody awesome, probably the best glasto since my first (also my first fest). Got to see who I wanted, and go where I wanted without trying to look after my mate seein as it wouldve been her first glasto.

So do it dude! It's a great experience full stop, whether you're alone, in a pair or a huge group. :P

having said that, there's a few of us this yr, but I'll still try n wander off on my own. :P

I would have no hesitation at all about going to Glasto solo-raving. Do it. Just be open minded and talk to as many people as you can and leave any inhibition you may have at the gate.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
