2010 will be my 3rd glastonbury and will be the 3rd time i wont be at the Pyramid stage on the friday night! Theres always been something more to my taste on elsewhere. Im part of the younger generation (only 19) and respect what U2 have done over the years but would prefer it if ME had someone like Green Day or Kanye on the other.

With all the clashes that this year brought up i wont be suprised next year to be having my heart broken missing a glastonbury moment. It gets said all the time but, theres something for everyone at glasto and you wont leave disappointed.

It'll be the chemicals, faithless or fatboy slim I reckon.

The Green Day argument to headline is stupid. Do any of you know how festivals operate and Glastonbury? Blackhole you haven't made one valid point in this thread! Take Glasto's headliners in 08 and 09, apart from Springsteen none of the other 5 are bigger than Green Day. Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party were other stage headliners last year, 2 acts that at times can't sell out Academy venues, bt yeah Green day who easily sold out 10 arenas on their last tour will be in the same place next year :P .

And the rumour of them playing has come from them asking Glasto to play, I'm pretty sure nothing else. I'm pretty sure that when they asked Mr Eavis, he knew that it was on their basis to headline the pyramid. Glasto pays 300k tops for a band to headline the pyramid, god knows to headline the other but Green Day won't accept this money and I can't blame them. They'd probably get 300k just for a been an exclusive act to reading/leeds and money again on top of that! People are saying that Carl Barat won't reunite the libertines this year because of people's perceptions on his solo album release. What would people's perception be of Green Day if they only headline the Other and someone like Muse, a similar size band headline the Pyramid? I can't see their management been too happy about it.

I reckon it could be the Chems or Faithless/Fatboy aswell, Green Day are a possibility but I'm not sure if that would happen.

Maybe we'll get someone like Keane or The Cribs?

Elbow would also be brilliant but the U2 clash would be horrible for many.

I was thinking about this I'd plump for a dance act something along the lines of Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Faithless, Kraftwerk, or the like.

Definitely forget the main stages and head for shangri La, Arcadia and the like for an awesome Friday night getting into the areas before they get busy to find the hidden gems. Parts of these don't open until Friday night anyway and are worth exploring

Was thinking about this last night - many of the people I know woudl catch U2 even though they aren't huge fans. largely as it's the first festival they've done in 20 odd years and there's a prospect of them doing a pretty unique setlist (can't imagine they'd just pump the new album).

So that got me thinking who would be of sufficient magnitude to get them away from the Pyramid. The only person I can think of that's been talked about in recent years is Stevie Wonder. A quick straw poll of my mates suggests the lure of hearing Living for the City, Superstition etc. live trumps U2 by a country mile.

If Stevie is added to the lineup I'll be happy no matter what else turns up.

What Glastonbury doesn't pay a headliner in money it makes up in publicity on the TV, in the papers, on the radio etc.

It is for that reason I should think that a band like green day wouldn't play second best to Muse, radiohead, U2, whoever.

Yes but Bloc Party are one of the biggest bands in britain arn't they not?

No I'm not saying that not many people at Glasto like Greenday. I'm just saying a younger audience appreceate their music more. I feel as if you go through a stage with Greenday, when your 12 you are really into them and think they are the best band in the world. But then as you get older you realise there is better music out there and get into that instead. Yes I'm sure there are some harcore fans that go to glasto who are in there 20s or 30s but not very many. And If I was Greenday then I would be humbled to be asked to headline glasto, even if it was on John Peel. It doesn't really matter how big the band is at glasto, it's about the audience they appeal to.

They had The Prodigy and Stereophonics as headliners. No offence but thats weak for a 'major festival'. Thos acts are warm up acts for headliners or 2nd stage headliners at the real major festivals(Glastonbury, T in the Park, Leeds & Reading and Vs).

Those sorts of acts headline medium festivals.

I think it will be arctic monkeys. they have mentioned in a couple of interviews recently that owing to the fact they are now omitting a few of their most famous hits (bored of playing them) from their set, they are happier to play smaller, maybe less prestigious venues.

I can also recollect the suggestion last year they would be second headliner on the pyramid, so are not insistent on headliner status
