There's a 3/4day gap between their Wembely gig, until Glasto. Seems to me like a big Glastonbury sized gap. Methinks that's gotta go down as a bit of a rumour now surely.

They're playing in Paris on the Saturday, which leaves on the Friday and Sunday free for Glasto.

While that's not impossible it's very unlikely.

Sore them last night in Manchester. Best gig i have ever seen. Not only do they play good music, (and all the popular crowd pleasers) but they also put on a really good show. Alot of interaction with the crowd and at no point in the 3 hours did they become boring.

Well if U2 can be classed as a rumour in similar circumstances, surely this warrants a bit of questioning over whether Green Day will play or not? I agree it is very unlikely but, Paris isn't a million miles away

Just because a band is on tour is not by itself a reason to rumour a band.

Just because some people want to see a rumour cos it somehow makes them think a band is more likely to play is not by itself a reason to rumour a band.

To be fair, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are both shocking albums. 21st Century Breakdown is still an improvement, but...

Dookie and Insomniac are obviously classics. Nimrod and Warning both have their moments too. Their first two albums are also great, and much under-appreciated.

Plenty of bands do it

Their "limited resources" is a part of why it's sometimes easier for a small band to make trips across the channel quickly for shows - there's less that they have to pack-up and take with them, plus less money to be spent on staying in hotels.

Bands do it, but most probably would prefer not to - things can go wrong for all sorts of reasons, and there's less time to iron out any issues, and non-EU acts might have issues at border crossings too.

If a band spends a lot of time on the road and has done for years, they'd probably prefer to take things a bit easier than having to constantly be dashing around. The likes of Green Day can afford extra days in hotels than smaller acts too.

Anyway, while it's not beyond Green Day to do it, I reckon that the situation with Depeche Mode this year (where they also had a show in Paris, and turned down Glastonbury because of it) shows what a major band would prefer to do in an ideal world. Ultimately (aside from whether the festival wants them) I reckon it'll come down to how keen Green Day are to do that dashing around to play Glastonbury.

As you say, even if they were asked, it depends on how much kudos they'd put on playing Glastonbury. Is it possible that Depeche Mode wouldn't have put up with a lower billing than they think they deserve ( ), as well as the conflict with the Paris show?

yep, it's quite possible that in the mix was an offer not as good as DM thought they deserved.

The same could apply with Green Day too tho, as there's a part of me that thinks they'd be more likely to get an offer to headline the Other Stage rather than the Pyramid, because they're not of the legend status as some previous headliners (Bruce, NY, etc), and much less popular across a wide demographic as the more mainstream past headliners (Blur, Coldplay, Killers, etc).

Didn't Dave Gahan play Glastonbury a few year's ago - to quite a small crowd on the Other Stage? That kind of highlighted their popularity

they are a band that I would like to see live, but wouldnt pay just to see them - there are better choices for bands to play - as long as it is not Coldplay

I don't think Green Day would be insulted if they were asked to headline The Other Stage. Can't see it happening, but I'd love to see them there!

And to the people that say they're not a "Glastonbury band" - surely there's no such thing? What is so amazing about Glasto is the diversity of acts that do play.

Aside from not really being the kind of band that would fit into people's ideas of a worthy headliner, I personally couldn't stand a whole hour and a half from them. I think if you like them, go see them on their own and they are probably great live and they've a good few tunes but in short, I'd gag if they were announced.

But this is a band that enjoys playing smaller gigs too - which is part of the reason they formed the side-project Foxboro Hot Tubs. And even as Green Day, they've played many secret shows in smaller venues...

I would have thought they'd be perfectly happy playing the Park Stage.

The same is true of the Foo Fighters (another band that would be a great addition).

Green Day would be much more entertaining that the 2.5 hour self indulgent snore fest Springsteen subjected Glastonbury to this year.
