Muse

While some of the statements in here are a little silly its no more nauseating than people who seem to hate every single popular band around and instead insist on circle jerking over less popular bands with their high horse opinions on "real music" only to end up slagging that band off if they ever become more popular. Kings of Leon are a great example of this.

They are both up there, they are one of the best live bands in the world, matt is up there(actually most proper muse fans prefer his piano playing and agree he is better pianist than guitarist), it happens with every band though, I don't think its just a problem with Muse, for instance I am sure there are radiohead fans who go around saying the exact same thing. People don't mean harm for by it, but for them they are the best and thats fine because you could never actually say someone is the best as a matter of fact. Your tosh post before though really isn't needed about them being for people who don't like music.

What exactly makes their liveshow "up there" though? Why are Muse any better live than a multitude of other "indie" type guitar bands? In saying such things you just show how little live music you must have seen.

Same goes with calling Matt Bellamy the best guitarist. All you are doing is demonstrating how little music you have listened to.

Enjoy the band, but just lay off the ridicluously over the top praise. Or, accept people will shoot you down and laugh at you.

I would say the amount of people who go enjoy it? The lights and lasers etc , not everyone's cup of tea but some people like that, you can see they put alot of effort into the shows compared to some indie type guitar bands. The two times I have seen muse, i have thoroughly enjoyed myself, not stooped jumping for the entirety of the show and the people around me seemed to be the same. The same can be said for many bands :P They put on one of hell of a show, that people enjoy I think that makes them up there with the best live performers and alot of people who have seen some great performances agree. I also them being asked to headline Glasto's 40th shows a lot of faith in the performance.

Anyway what did you expect? This is a thread about Muse, obviously fans are going come here and post exaggerated comments about the band, I am sure most people here are guilty of doing it at some point.

I'm normally a huge Muse fan and Russycarps is normally a bit of an idiot (the Walkmen aside) but he does have a point here - there is a lot of hyperbole about the band and throwing around stuff like best guitarist in the world is just plain bonkers (Vini Reilly hasn't had a mention so far which is also bonkers).

Muse are a very good band, who are excellent live, who have a suped-up show that needs to be careful it doesn't eat itself and become Spinal Tap (as they have shown signs of doing recently imo).

If only Stevie Ray Vaughan was still around... :P

Talking of guitarists, I saw a video of John Mayer playing with some blues musicians and he held his own very well - considering I thought he was a pop singer whose fans were 14 year old girls it surprised me. This has nothing to do with Muse or who the best living guitarist is but I found it interesting...

Joe Satriani. Now that's a f**king guitarist. f**k your Jimmy pages. Watch this guy on youtube and you will be mesmerised by his guitaring.

I think Matt Bellamy is a gifted musician, not the best guitarist around. The fact he can play piano well and guitar, aswell as writing classical pieces of music shows he is talented.

I would say Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead is at this current time one of the best creative guitarist out there. It's phenomenal what he can do and come up with. Anyone heard '15 step' by Radiohead?? It's played on the 5 beat for crying out loud. That's ridiculous. It also works!

And russycarps. If you don't agree slightly with that then you really don't know anything about music........Oh yeh and Arcade fire are shit....that's my opinion.....oh yeh and i hate Nick Caves music....that's my opinion. I'm going to leave it that as I don't need to drag on about how much i hate them like you seem to do with Muse.

That's my case closed. Goodnight

There is nothing original about their live show though is there. Nothing to set it apart to justify "BEST LIVE ACT EVER!" The lazers have been done a many times before (and a many times better). At wembley they released a few balloons into the crowd. Guess what? this has been done many times before and many times better.

He's a good, talented musician. But the best in the world? It's absolutely laughable.

It's terrific you enjoyed the shows. Hooray for you. I'm happy for you that they are playing glastonbury. But I will continue to pour scorn on people who perpetuate the myth that they are anything other than "ok". Just because they put on more of a show than someone like oasis or the killers or whoever else you have seen doesnt really make them the best in the world.

My main criticism of muse and their live show is that it is utterly devoid of any emotion whatsoever. Just a whopper on stage playing fiddly guitar solos wailing and screaming out lyrics that are a load of utter tosh.

I'm amazed that a musical Nazi such as yourself could enjoy Glastonbury.

If you like to criticise, I recommend Cheryl Cole. The shite she's released could rival the shite you've posted.

    • I've come across a few this weekend saying Deftones aren't big enough for Download.   I would recommend b&b hotel hbf the night before....cheap, comfortable and very decent. Within 10 minutes from the station and a tram stop outside to jump on...all travel is free during the festival time as well with a kombi. Lidl is very good and cheap I can't lie....€6 for a chair with carey handle, €20 with a bag too...you can work that out yourself.   If you camp, get up at 5am and go to the queue....literally don't question it as now I know.     The travel wise part is easy when you get the hang of it and I've never had an easier exit from a festival today tbh. We were camped in the turn left section but past the registration and to get water you have to come right out.   Opening up an exit through he camp at least by Friday morning when everyobe is there would be much better but you csnt walk through general if you're green and sonon.   I think the issue for me probably too is I have never taken like a mutliple litre water too, I've always done a 6 pack water from like poundland lol but you definitely need it. I had one shower that was cold lol   Talking of getting into the front, Volbeat was the only easy one, for Maiden and especially Linkin Park if you weren't in the queue for it by at least the last quarter ot Architects you had no hope....it was shocking. I do like orbit to sit down. I had to decide to sack off Within Temptation too or no chance.   Second stage biggest gripe is the faff of walking all the way round when VIP or whatever it is literally get access to each bit. I did read tbh before going people though RIP/Ring was turning too much the wrong way.   Also as a side note, caught some of Limp Bizkit last night too and they are not headliner but any distance at all. Yes they pull a crowd...they would do with LP finished but on the grand scale its a super weak booking. Stop, start for video recordings all the way through a headline set?, 1hr 15 minutes and you can't play for that time. I'm so glad they were not chosen to headline main.   On another thing, if RIP played it right they'll get GC and Avril to sub/second stage headline on the Blink day.   Toilets and cleanliness is a big plus I will say that.
    • Any of the likes of Keo, Basht. and Cardinals could all fit in here.  Although they’re the sort of bands that could fit many of the stages at Glastonbury
    • Glasto loves a come back act - how about the Rapture?
    • Yeah mentioned in the park thread but feel more Woodsies to me
