and while we're at it GFS is the Global Forecast System provided by NOAA. They provide free data for 2 weeks worldwide which is then used by every forecast site(Metcheck, Netweather, Accuweather etc.) except the Met Office (or equivalents in other countries). The only reason the forecasts on most sites vary is what they do with the data - Metcheck pretty much send it as is, some have more advanced computer systems, Netweather have real people.

The main thing is that we only have two forecasts this far out, GFS and Met Office. Don't think that just because a load of websites predict rain that it means they are right. They are all using the same source data, therefore the Met Office is as important as all the others combined.

ECM is the Eurpoean Centre for Medium range weather forecasts. Most people on Netweather rate the ECM highest, followed by Met Office, followed by GFS. ECM only predict for 10 days and once this comes within range you can find it [url="http://www.ecmwf.int/products/forecasts/d/charts/medium%2

I said since 2000, I wasn't at 2000. So in the alst decade I have been twice and both times it has tipped it down.

Maybe I should stay at home for the greater good.

So all forecasts any further out than 10 days (apart from the Met office) are an interpretation of some data given out by a bunch of septics for free? I realise this isn't quite worthless but it's probably not far off. American organisations in my experience aren't that altruistic. If it was worth selling, they'd sell it, not give it away.

 All I can see is a collection of 1960s style psychedelic patterns.

despite numerous attempts to make it earlier, last year was my first foray into the world of glastonbury. for several years before i always managed to miss out some way or another, which was all the more annoying as pretty much all my mates went each year.

by far the most annoying year was 2007 as the line up looked very good to my eyes and every single one of them got tickets. while i had made the stupid decision to go travelling around central and south america.

my green eyed monster took over and i placed a curse upon them all, that they would be drenched to the bone over the weekend, as if beelzebub himself had been on 2 week bender without breaking the seal, before releasing his swollen bladder all over their stupid monkey faces. and to properly teach them their lesson, when i finally popped my pilton cherry, it would be to a festival that would consider the term 'cloud' as a strange and confusing prospect.

alas, i missed 2008, and by the early hours of friday last year i was beginning to question my status as walking talking drinking smoking deity amongst men. however, this year i am going with my girlfriend and her mates, not one of my scurvy bunch within 60 miles of the pyramid stage. and my how i will laugh at each one of them hysterically down my phone during the weekend while sunning myself in front one stage or another. and oh what a moment it will be when i realise my battery has been dead for days.

but anyway, i digest...

based on this unfullfilled pact i made with Quetzalcoatl (Kukulcan kept his end) up on the top of teotihuacan, and the knowledge that silly friends are to silly to get tickets for this years festival, i can happily give the confirmed weather report for this years glastonbury as.....

Sun, sprinkled with large spatterings of fun.

For some reason, they're legally forced to give it away. Other than that, you're spot on. There really is no point in looking for another week although I will check every GFS run because I can't help myself

Bobtron, do we need to do anything special to worship you or will you bless us with good weather through your presence alone?

Also, are you more powerful than the posters rain goddess girlfriend (mentioned many pages ago)?

Splendid!

BTW, how do you get the stats for number of posts in a thread? I know it's possible, and I've done it before, but i'm buggered if i can find it now...

EDIT: Don't worry, sussed it...

Please see my rant earlier in this thread regarding this. The GFS is the main US model that most of their domestic and international forecasts are based on. It is funded like the UK Met Office out of general taxation, so the data is rightfully made available free of charge to any organisation, US or International who wishes to use it. This is freedom of information in action. I have for many years attempted to persuade the UK Met office to release their data to me (for non-commercial surf forecasts) but they have consistently refused to do so. They argue that the data is valuable and it is the governments interest to recoup money whenever possible. My gripe is that all the data is already paid for out of taxation, so paying for the data for non-commercial use means that I would I would in effect be paying for it twice. The WMO (World Meteorological Organization) enforces a minimum requirement of data that has to made publicly available (for safety reasons due to severe weather events) and the UK Met Office begrudgingly releases this and nothing more.

    • I have no issue with the Primavera crowd in most respects. They’re always friendly, respectful and no hint that there could be trouble at any point.   However…the talking is horrific here. The xx was pretty much ruined for me due to people having conversations with their mates the whole way through. Noticed it from all different nationalities across the weekend…English, Irish, Spanish etc. There seems to be no understanding of the nuances of when it’s okay to talk and when it isn’t. And obviously the sound being quiet at a lot of spots on the main stages exacerbates the issue. That alone has made me reconsider whether I will be coming back, it would probably take a lineup as good as this year (unlikely)

    • I found the vibe a little different to recent editions.. definitely an older crowd, less queer, less Spanish.. certainly has something to do with the lack of Glastonbury this year. And I felt Saturday was a little overcrowded. I‘ve never seen Mordor as full as last night for the xx and Gorillaz. Did not enjoy that too much.
    • Not my favourite year either, despite liking the lineup more than previous years. Not sure what it was, I guess Thursday really put the brakes on things. But yeah I'll be back next year hopefully. And maybe Massive Attack will return...
    • E-mail summarizing Saturday - Primavera Sound 2026 Journal Day 3. As in previous days, it's going to be on the website soon, I think.
