Weather thread 2010

Thursday last year was the best day. Ridiculously hot & sunny. So much so that I got utterly rat-arsed, sunburnt and dehydrated which led to an early-ish night. It rained overnight though and into Friday as I remember having a dance in the rain to Bjorn Again on Friday at the Pyramid. Always thought an Abba tribute belonged in the lower regions of Hell, but was a good laugh actually.

The best day I can ever remember for weather was the Thursday in 2005. It was awesome - lovely and hot, very few clouds, dry grass - we got annihilated whilst watching the Goonies.

I was in absolute heaven during that day.

Then I woke up on the Friday morning:

F**ksticks. :P

I cannot express in words how pissed off I was. 2004 was pretty mucky by the end, and I was so hopeful that 2005 was going to be nice and sunny throughout. That Thursday was SO sunny and dry, so much so that even a normal rain shower wouldn't have ruined the site. But the rain of Friday morning wasn't normal rain. It was some freak bastard son of a bitch rain, spawned from the ironic bollocks of satan.

This isn't normal, after just a few hours of rainfall:

My mood that morning was probably as annoyed as I've ever been. Thank god for John Butler Trio who cheered me up no end when they started playing. Ironically, the song they played that really gripped me was called 'Ocean'.

:P

But moving swiftly on after resolving that li'l problem with a rain-bringer ...

I realise that it's perhaps a tad early for weather-related obsession and all that ... but is anyone else somewhat concerned that it's been just too d@mn nice and particularly to d@mn dry so far this month ? Doesn't seem to have rained much if at all this month so far around here and April is generally supposed to be a wet one historically ! I (almost) can't believe it's not butter that I'm actually complaining that the bl**dy weather is too good and defo not wet enough but I'm starting to get concerned now that all the missing precipitation is gonna come along later in the year when it's most certainly NOT going to be welcome at all :P

No no, it can rain as much as it likes until June 17th. Thereafter, light drizzle only until the 22nd. Then dry.

It's my wedding anniversary on May 5th. I'm going to St Ives for a week on May 14th.

I'm prepared to accept rain throughout each of these events as long as Glastonbury is dry.

I'll be taking the wife out for a meal on our anniversary - restaurants have rooves.

I intend to spend a lot of time in the pub in St Ives. Pubs have rooves. We might go to the beach as well - beaches are located near the sea. The sea is wet. Might as well go the whole hog and get more wet.

Glastonbury needs it more. Just don't tell my wife I posted this.

Bloody hell, Mike - nice to see you're doing your best for sun-kind, but your approach is rather Nazi-like.

No, I'm actually glad my ticket has been cancelled, I would have only stood in a muddy field moaning very loudly at the person who persuaded me to return after all these years that "We don't get this type of weather at Sonar/Summercase/Benicassim/Exit/Dissonanze".

:P

What the hell am I doing in the weather thread? That's it, I've broken the seal now, even William of Walworth is nowhere to be seen. I shouldn't have started looking until the beginning of June.

More useful will be JACKONE's Glastonbury Festival-specific forecasts, remember them?

I will be contacting him very soon over on Netweather, to 'politely' request :P that he restarts these. I can't remember from what date he started them last year, but I suspect there's little point until about mid May.

Well the weather looking out of my window is damp, grey and misrable...but that's fine as long as it gets it out of the way in time for Glastonbury.

But as we all know, every World Cup summer is a scorcher. Have no fear folks :P

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
    • It's certainly gone more that way, but then they went completely in the opposite direction and had Cat Stevens.
