No it should not. But everytime we ban something new we sign away more freedom. Not every person who brings a flag does so to get on telly. Take British Sea Power's flag-art competition at last years festival.

I would agree that coming to a compromise (i.e. as suggested, no flags at the front of the stage) is a better strategy. Banning them outright is something I just can't agree with. There are already more rules than are neccessary and the fact of the matter is rules do not work. Enlightenement not enforcement. How many rules are we going to insist on before we end up turning away from the festival citing the loss of freedom and spirit as reason?

the flags at glasto were ridickulus. I know they ban everything a v (unless you buy it inside the arena) but it was nice to actually be able to see the band/artist... On stage. At glasto it was a struggle to even see the screens near the front especially for kasabian, madness and blur

People on here saying stuff like 'I can't agree with a ban' etc what else is there? If somebody isn't bothered by blocking peoples views they won't give a f*ck about the back of the ticket or whatever stating 'NO FLAGS'. 'Encouragment' or 'education', won't work. People don't care. I mean it also says no drugs, no glass etc does that work? Hell No. It needs to be an enforced rule or people won't care. People take drugs, fine doesn't affect me. People take flags and it does. That is just rude and wrong.

'Freedom of expression even if it's them expressing they are tw*ts' - fair enough, I'm going to express myself by being a gimp and snapping the pole on front of me. The flag holder may think I'm a d*ck, many others too, but I bet the 100 people behind that snapped flag pole would be thinking 'I wish I did that' and would thank me for it.

I pay my money to watch acts not listen to an oversized, multicoloured speaker system. Simply enforced rule for security 'see a flag, take it away' anywhere on site. Only way it would work and even if 25% of the flags get through(they actually look good in limited numbers)then fine but stages this year were 100% blocked out which is a joke! Ban away, every punter will have a better time. Fact! Rant over

Love the flags, really adds to atmosphere.

There was a post on here recently from a guy who disliked flags and saw Blur at Hyde Park a few days after seeing them at Glasto. He said that he had not realised how much the flags contributed to the atmosphere and really missed them at Hyde Park.

The idea that they block the view is very silly, my view was blocked 50% of the time by someone in front of me, and my wife was blocked 75% of the time. Its what happens in big crowds.

and when the cock who had it sees himself on telly with his big daft sausage flag he will think he is top chav and show all his chavvy mates who will be jealous cos everyone can see his flag and next year when said chavs turn up they will all try to out-do each other in the flag stakes, getting bigger, longer, wider, dafter, meaningless, obscure messages just to get noticed on telly

this scenario will be reproduced up and down the country and you thought this year was bad.....

Much as I *really* do like a FEW flags (and pigeons on a stick of course !) esp so if they're bl**dy GOOD flags rather than just the usual cr@p, it's got way outta hand. Don't see that "asking" peeps not to bring them to the front is ever going to be much good - doesn't exactly work outstandingly well when "asking" peeps not to drop their cr@p everywhere, not to bring gazebos, not to p1$$ anywhere inappropriate, not to leave stuff behind when they go and all that does it ? A lazy, inconsiderate, selfish tw@t is still a lazy, inconsiderate selfish tw@t even when they're at Glasto ! The "hey look at me" brigade have taken over and need to be culled

;)

Maybe we can add one of Mr.Peel's pet hates i.e. "fat bird on boyfriends shoulders" to the banned list as well :D Even gettin' 'em out for the lads doesn't always compensate for staring at an @rse the size of a small country instead of the stage for large parts of a gig ! Oh yeah, and just to be quite clear here, not meant to be in any way sexist or discriminatory - I doubt anyone particularly wants to be faced with anyone else's @rse at a gig, be it large or small, male, female or even Martian for that matter when trying to enjoy a band doing their stuff :D

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
