I really hope U2 don't play. Not that I wouldn't want to see them but the whole festival would be all about them, and it would be impossible to get tickets.

Eavis also said he was talking to headliners who've never played the festival, which precludes Muse, Radiohead, etc (love to see them again though).

I reckon the Stones are likely headliners, especially if they can agree a price - I think they've always wanted too much in the past. It's Eavis pere's swansong too so we might see some older bands - Pink Floyd ?

I think after the apparently universal praise for this years festival (and the 40th anniversary) they will try and get absolutely HUGE headliners.

I think at least 1 of these will be approached if not booked.

The Rolling Stones (legendary performers able to easily entertain a crowd of Glasto's size)

Bob Dylan (as above)

AC/DC (Because I think Metallica wouldn't fit in, and because they are just amazing)

David Bowie (Legend)

Paul McCartney

The Strokes (maybe not even the strokes are big enough)

Daft Punk (whoever said this is on to something)

Led Zeppelin (Really think they would be interested in this)

The Pixies (convinced the Pixies will headline either R&L or Glasto next year)

--------------------BANDS WHO I HOPE DON'T PLAY BUT MAY WELL--------------------------------

Coldplay

U2

Radiohead (only because I am seeing them at leeds this year)

Green Day

-----Dream Bands --------

The Smiths

The Stone Roses

Justice (no they aren't huge but the show would blow your mind)

Pink Floyd

Geez, that was a longer post than anticipated ;)

My personal feeling is that the Stones will play

Bob Dylan isn't a huge headliner. That would be a mistake. Bowie is semi-retired (and has headlined before). Macca has headlined before.

I always look to who will have had recent album releases when thinking about this stuff. Given that this year was something of "the year of old legends" I don't think they'll do the same again - for me that precludes probably the Stones, Bowie, and possibly even U2.

Radiohead is good bet. I wouldn't be surprised if Kings of Leon come back too and get bumped up the bill this time as I hear their next album is as good as written, so is likely to be out for next summer. Coldplay will probably feature somewhere too. Possibly Faithless. Outside bet - Arctic Monkeys?

If the talk of one band from each of the 40 years is true then they'll be struggling to find many still going 40 years on. Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd would fit.

Would love to see a Brian Wilson return, if he's still OK.

Also one that a lot of people hoped for this year - Fleetwood Mac.

I can't stand Bono, but even U2 over the Chillis. They're just not right at all, that'd be awful.

I can see Bowie being there - The Smiths would be amazing if he could sort it, but I doubt it...

It'll be U2, Radiohead and one of Coldplay Muse or KOL. I reckon Stones & Zep will be approached for the 40th but can't see it.

Anyway, at least it means I can spend more time away from the Pyramid next year (unless its KOL !)

Muse

U2

I'm thinking after Eavis' enthusiasm for getting a younger crowd, and seeing the big response that Lady Gaga, La Roux, Lily Allen got, maybe a pop headliner, a total reaction again to this years 'elder statesmen of rock' feel. Maybe Kylie? Or even Take That (possibly with the "big" Robbie reunion)?

I think there will be a real mix from over the years, Glasto is 40 next year so bound to be a bit special, coupled with the fact that I am 40 that year as well - IT will be fab whoever is on.

Radiohead get asked every year to do it, so who knows whether they will or not, but they are bound to headline again eventually.

I reckon Coldplay were the mystery "4th headliner" for this year, so not sure if that makes them any more or less likely to headline.

Won't be Stone Roses, as they don't want to reform. Won't be Bowie because he has already headlined and don't know of any older/legend act headlining twice.

ME said he is trying Led Zeppelin and The Smiths but I think both of these are very unlikely.

ME also said he had 4 acts in mind and two of them hadn't played Glastonbury before. And said he had already booked one at the NME awards. Now since this is months in advance, it means nothing but since this is all we have to go on I may as well speculate based on that.

Libertines would be a good bet, as they are willing to reform, but I'm not sure they are big enough to headline, so second headliner or other stage may be more likely.

Muse seem very likely as they will have a new album out and won't have played for 6 years. Could be somebody that might be booked at the NME awards too.

The other of the 4 which have already played is probably Radiohead.

That leaves two acts which haven't played, which Glastonbury have got lined up.

One might be Foo Fighters, but I can't see them actually playing.

I suspect one might be U2. They have talked about wanting to play there, and this would be a good time to play.

I suppose Rolling Stones might also be an option.

It's never this predictable anyway. It'll probably be 3 acts which none of us will have even thought of.

Two more things:

Pixies won't headline. If they can only second headline IOW (which had stereophonics and prodigy as headliners this year, who would NOT be headliners at Glastonbury) then they will not headline Glastonbury unless they have a massive surge in popularity or if Glastonbury are really struggling to find big acts.

Kings of Leon will not headline, at least not for a good few years anyway.

My take on it is each day has a loose theme

Friday: Usually younger or first time headliner (Didn't follow this with NY)

Saturday: Big (Controversial) band

Sunday: Oldie or re-union bank

So

Friday:

Elbow (The Eavises were talking about past acts and after 2008 heroics)

The Libertines (Outside Bet)

Muse (Havent played for 6 years)

Saturday:

U2 (Have pretty much commited themselves to playing glasto soon)

Radiohead (Preparing for glasto by playing reading )

Rolling Stones (Eavis trys every year and they might wanna tie up loose ends in there acheiviements)

Sunday:

Led Zeppelin or The Smiths (Doubt it but eavis said)

Pulp (Jarvis seems to love glasto and was on site for the whole weekend)

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
