At what point did they rip off the Charlatans and Spiritualized?

I think they are a great band, probably the UK's best band in the last 20 years. They are our generation's The Kinks/The Who.

I agree, i don't think Blur have recorded a truly "great" album but they have a fantastic string of singles!

And that is not saying they don't have brilliant non album tunes it's just their albums can be a bit "mixed"

brilliant brilliant live band though, saw them a few times at their peak and will be there on Sunday night

Damon the best songwriter in the UK in the last 20 years. His bpdy of work in the last ten years alone is incredible.

I don't know enough about Nick Cave to compare them fairly but if he was that good their relative positions on the Pyramid would be reversed.

Alburn Best song writer of his generation- ididn't think the 90's were that bad

anywsy i thought blurs songs were credited to all of them

i could name a lot of people who were better song writers - people who have actually realeased consistently brilliant albums part of being a great songwriter is realising when some of your compositions are not very good crmpling them up and starting again. yes there are are probably time constraints and pressure from record labels but who said being great was easy. also why not just release albums with 10 tracks on?

Just to throw my little opinion into the mix, I don't think they've ever recorded a really bad album, Leisure and The Great Escape dip a little for me but all the others are pretty consistant.

13 is my personal favourite, followed by Modern Life and Think Tank.

And better than Nick Cave? That's a tough one, I'm a big fan of both and I've seen Nick and his seeds before and they were excellent so Blur do have some stiff competition there, I guess I'll decide on the night.

I'm still a bit baffled as to why they got back together just to do gigs. It strikes me as standing still rather than moving forward, which is strange for Albarn & Coxon especially. I wonder if an album may come out off the back of their sessions together.

    • I'm not a Bond fan or anything, just a fella who will happily sit and watch a Bond film - so from that perspective I will say that Brosnan is my favourite, I really love all the ones he has done and can quite happily watch them over and over.   favourite individual film tho is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.   absolutely hate the Dalton ones - I used to think it was just the way he chose to play the character, for some reason he thought Bond should be a thoroughly unlikable person. but actually, Dalton plays this exact same character in every single thing I have ever seem him in... so I think he is either just a properly sh*t actor, or maybe he himself is just a thoroughly unlikable person.   dont really have any interest in any future ones tho... didnt really like the Craig ones.
    • Next year's dates: 3. - 5. June 2027.
    • Fair enough but Im surprised what you say about the acts. I dont see who they could realistically have booked to make it better than the lineup they had.   And Im curious about your cryptic last comment. Locals get in for free?!
    • Non of those three are stadiums bands and Slipknot/Maiden have both been booked for Download more times than any of other headliners, I wouldn't say that trio feels big or expensive, it's a solid realistic trio
