Petition to outlaw touts

It appears that someone has started an e-petition on the downing street website to outlaw touts, if you agree please register your vote to make government look into it as it is clear that the music business does not have the will to make it happen http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/stoptouts/

whats the problm with touts? its the ebay scammers who dont have the tickets that should be stopped.

im relying on touts this year as I wont have the funds the end of march, and will be relying on touts later in the the summer.

Touts include ebayers, secondary sale sites etc, not just the slimey bloke outside venues, the problem is they are often sell fakes

Touts outside gigs are fine. The problem's the people who buy them on ebay purely to sell them on. Forcing people to pay them extra simply because they got there first. It's like going into a supermarket and buying all the milk, then sitting outside selling it for twice the price.

The bloke couldn't get tickets so had to go to Ebay, he paid £300 for two tix, that's just ridiculous.

Say I buy some vinyl at face value and then sell it on for a profit on eBay, what's the harm in that?

I dislike eBay touts as much as the next person, but it will never be outlawed and campaigning for it is a waste of time IMO.

As for the vinyl argument I'd say that was different. People have a time limit when they can buy tickets for festivals/gigs, they do panic.

Thats hardly the same. A better comparison would be buying all xboxes, then selling them outside for twice the price. Milk and gig tickets are hardly similar in the grand scheme of things.

If people didn't pay stupid prices on ebay, there wouldn't be such a problem. If after ticket sale day this year, nobody bought tickets from ebay until August, I'd be willing to bet that nobody would pay anymore than a tenner over face value.

Selling tickets you don't have isn't on though, I'll agree with that.

Xbox's then, doesn't make much difference to the analogy. The thing that annoys me most I think is just that they don't deserve to make any money. They're just making people pay them for nothing at all.

Thats the point though, they're not making people pay. People are evidently willing to pay that much. It's not like not getting a ticket is that much of a big deal. Like an xbox, unlike milk.

I think that was all down to segragation/hooligan problems.

Thing that disturbs me is the big ticket companies are starting to auction off the best seats or pass them on to the big re-sellers with a massive markup and taking the place of the touts... lets hope that trend doesnt become the norm.

It is easy to say 'if no one buys them, it'll stop' - but if the choice is between not going to gigs/festivals or paying over the odds - what are you going to do?

Not go. If people took this approach, touting would stop pretty sharpishly.

People who buy from touts cannot complain about touting.
