2003 was scorching wasnt it? Also what year was brian wilson? I got so badly sunburned that afternoon! Was radiohead 1997? that was horrific weather.

Anyway, I have a physical geography degree and as such am qualified to say it is gonna be HOT HOT HOT!

2003 was scorching. I can remember the sunburn pain even now!!

Glastonbury's that are really hot are not that much fun as you can't really escape from it in the day time. Better than the hell of 2007 though. 1997 was bad but I was only 20 then and just thought it was hilarious!

Meh, it's a known phenomenon that most regulars have heard about and dealt with already. I wouldn't worry about it, quite simply because there is diddly squat you can do about it. If you'll only be happy with a bone dry Glastonbury, stay at home on your nice comfy couch and watch it on the BBC. :-D

'Glastonbury festival could be hit by a monsoon this year, experts are predicting'

---------------------------------------------------------

could = Verb

used to indicate a possibility:

---------------------------------------------------------

Well, I could find a gold bar down the end of the garden,

I could win the lottery at the weekend,

I could be asked to play guitar with Dave Gilmour.

A possibility - but doubtfu!!! ;-)

All that article boils down to is an expert saying we get monsoon season in June and it can affect Wimbledon and Glastonbury. We knew that, doesn't mean it'll happen this year!

The forecast in North Manchester this weekend was for seriously heavy rain all day on Saturday and Sunday, but it never arrived. We had a fair bit of rain on Friday night/Saturday morning but other than that all the forecasts were incorrect.

So at the moment it's still a bit too early to know what's gonna happen in Pilton come 24th June, and if the forecast does start saying rain, rain, rain (hopefully not of course), then there is a possibility that it'll be completely wrong ;)

Remain optimistic people

I'm sure I looked up several average rainfall figures last year and they mostly showed that June's wetter than May but drier than April, July, August and September. Unless there's something I don't get about the "European Monsoon" or the figures I looked up were all wrong, I still think that the monsoon theory's extremely dodgy.

According to this article from 2008 it has an average incidence of 7 out of 10 years but has been "less prominent" in the last 10 years :):)

Can't believe the huge low pressure system in place at thye moment. Never seen that arrangement before just before the festival, and it just keeps passing weather systems up into Southern England. Sure hope it p1sses off in the next 15 days.

Weather, weather altogether what's it going to do. We don't know so lets go ask weatherman Emu. Thats for those of you old enough to remember it.

Right i,ve pulled up a few stats for the weather in June. These stats are an average over the last 30 years taken on a country wide basis. They are not localised in anyway, they do show that June is a good month for festivals, not the best but up their with the best. So here goes.

June has the highest amount of sunshine over the year. With an average of over 6 hrs per day This is proper sunshine not just day light but real sunshine.

June has the 3rd highest annual average tempratures of the year which are around the 18 oC. Bettered only by July and August which are only 1 oC and 2 oC higher.

June has under 50mm of rain on average. This means that their are 7 months of the year that have more Rainfall on average and only 4 months that have less rainfall. August and July have more rain on average than June.

So in summary June has less rain than July and August. More Sunshine than July and August, but generally sligthly lower Tempratures. I know averages dont mean an awful lot because they tend to level out at some point and the difference between some months is minimal but June is the best month for Glasto despite what we may all think. Personally i'll make the best of it no matter what the weather but if it's nice weather then even better

    • I think people that used to be able to do a lot of gigs have had to be more picky and make a decision rather than going to most of what they’d have been able to previously. The prices are just crazy now and if you add in spending money, transport & a potential hotel, all of which has gotten more expensive unless it’s a local gig or smaller independent venue it becomes holiday money. Even if your local and it’s an arena gig it could be higher than a days pay for some.
