First ever half marathon on Sunday, and look at the forecast:

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayfor...rness&day=2

Minor wind and rain, a touch cold. Depends I suppose on whether you get too hot or too cold easily. Good luck.

Myself and my eldest have entered for the Paras10 in September. Looks fun

Forgot to check link before reply - is it an extra hard and obstructive 10K?

I shall shortly be entering the Watford 10K that 's being held on MayDay. Have done no running since the Brighton cock-up, so need to reclaim a target.

It's a 10 mile cross country, mainly uphill, in the Catterick area. You race against squaddies, and have the option of doing the race with a pack etc.

Cheers, the forecasts has improved quite a bit since I posted that link. Its 28 mile and hour winds and sleet originally!

2 hours 3 minutes and 54 seconds, for my first half. The weather was atrocious - very windy and sleet, so I'm delighted. I can definitely do a sub 2 hours half given better conditions!

Well done mate, fantastic! Haven't been out running much lately, though I did get up and down Ben Lomond in 3 hours last week and cycled the Crinan Canal (15 miles from Lochgilphead to Crinan and back) in 1 hour 15 minutes yesterday so I've been out and about recently! :)

Good work!! I'm off out to do a 15 miler tomorrow morning, I'm really looking forward to it although the forecast is crap and I've been laid up all weekend with man flu!

Not long til the marathon now though so got to keep up the training!

Brilliant time mate, well done. Did my first half in 2hrs 1 min and mine was good weather so your time is great.

8 months after my first i've got it down to 1hr 46 so there's something to aim for!

Done!

15 miles in 2.23.37

Am happy with that, I just wish there were a few nice flat runs to do around my way! Really pleased I've got past the 15 mile barrier I had in my head though, now feeling confident for the marathon woop.

(Edit to say: All the runs round my way are all actually really nice as I live on the Lizard Peninsula, but they are definitely hilly!)

Well yesterday I dragged my still-sore foot around the Silverstone half mara in a rather abysmal 2.46.

On the plus side, I hadn't run for 2 weeks and I was only just over a horrible virus that was probably still kicking around in my system and because I was terrified of further injuring my foot I told myself that I was going to deliberately plod and not in any way run properly, but still, that's a good 15mins longer than I was expecting it to take

Well done nonetheless, even if the time's not as good as you wanted. Virus, foot, and no recent runs all made it harder, and you kept to your plan.

Off to book my Watford 10K run right now, cos I keep promising to do it and keep forgetting.....

Well done in getting round, its very tough if you're not feeling well.

I've got a 5K, three 10Ks and a half marathon booked up at the moment. Probably do a few more though.

If anyone asks you to do Hastings half, say NO. My word my legs ache. Managed it in 1.49.59. Almost fainted between 12 and 13 miles. Very very very hilly!

Please remind me next year not to do it!

Still, in 3 weeks I have the very flat Paddock Wood 1/2 and hope to dip under 1.45 for the first time.

You're doing well mate.

Not got a half for a few months, but will break 2 hours at the next one.

  • 2 weeks later...

10K season coming up for me, with three coming up in the next 6 - 8 weeks. Hoping to get a PB (52.29) but might take until the 3rd race as one of the others is up a mountain (at Balmoral Castle!).

Going to do half marathons in July, August and September.

I detest 10ks - just too much of a sprint for me, and I definitely ain't a sprinter!

That said, i'm doing another on April 19th. This one is partly off road, however I'm still hoping for a PB as my PB was on a 2 lap 5k course that involved running up and huge (long and steep) hill twice.

Aiming to dip under 50 mins but that would require some sprint sessions between then and now and in reality i'm training for a half so probably won't happen.

I know what you mean.

I've run lots of 5Ks and 10Ks now, and one half marathon.

I am not sure what my preferred distance is, but its definitely not 5K - far too short and quick. I'm hoping the half marathon training will make a difference to my 10K times, but we'll wait and see. I do prefer the steadier pace of a half marathon though.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
