I could do with one of these. I only know the distance I've run because I've looked at it online beforehand but as I improve I would like to be able to know how fast I'm actually going when I'm out. Any recommendations for a cheap one?

We await to hear. Meantime, how do you work it out online?

Good time that for 6.8 miles...

Off buying some running shoes on Saturday and going to start the long journey back to fitness after christmas

Anyone use a Garmin?

I have one on my bike... Awesome bit of kit... Never get lost on my bike now and no stopping to look at maps... You can get watch size ones for running but I am planning on just sticking this one in my pocket for running...

I use the nike plus sport band. its really good and you dont need the nike shoes to use it, you can buy good pouches to stick onto your laces. Its a brilliant bit of kit for the price, and the website is great too. Lods of stuff to do on there, set goals, complete challenges, take part in events etc. It is really helping me in my training.

Oh and I did 6.8 miles today too in 1hr 7mins and I'm running the London marathon in April so you're doing much better than me thegaytent!

Good luck Mr Muel - unfortunately I didn't get a place - but I will be there cheering you all on.

How's the training going? What kind of weekly mileage are you doing?

Its going ok, Ive been a bit slack and only started a couple of weeks ago.

Well... I had a bit of hoo ha with my charity and only got my confirmation a couple of weeks ago, and I find it hard to train without a goal. I have done it before though so I'm not too worried.

Done about 15 miles so far this week.

My sponsor website, take a look its got more info on my running!

My cousin sent me a message on facebook about the Nike thing, she says we can do virtual races or something? May look into that!

My running made easy book arrived today so I'm skiving at work right now and reading that!

I am running on my own this time round wheras before i ran with a partner, so the Nike band has really helped with my motivation, I really would advise anyone to get it, I love it! I am a gadget lover though lol.

I had a wee look, its only 19 quid which seems good! I was gonna pay 12 for a pedometer at my weight watchers class but this seems like a much cooler way to keep track of it! I like gadgets too lol!

I think I need a running buddy so I can make plans and stick to them instead of deciding to stay home coz it looks cold outside, but I don't think I'd like anyone to see me in the puffing and panting state I get into!

I was the same, but to get out of me not wanting to look unfit I said to a friend at uni and we went running in Glasgow City Centre. After 5 mins you forget.

I'm actualy going to have to start doing it again, not been out since before Xmas ;)

Wow where did you find it that cheap?! mine was £45 I think. But that was last May. for that price it's very worth it.

Aaah, well that is technically the same thing but not really! That is the same technology, but is for the Ipod nano(annoying that it is only compatible with that version of Ipod.) The thing I have got runs without an Ipod, which in my opinion is better because you don't have to keep looking at your screen. From what I can make out they are sold out on most sites but here is an idea of what to look for. Nike Plus Sport Band

You can go to the Nike plus site and have a play around and it'll tell you all about it though.

Nike Plus

I did a little 3 miler today and have really sore legs, hmmm that's a bit of a worry. Going to rest up tomorrow and see how they feel on Saturday!

Did my 45 minutes in the rain this evening, amazed at how far it seemed, less impressed with discovering that my new running shoes are not waterproof on top.

MapMyRun has just logged it as 4.89 miles. Seemed far, but not quite the 5 miles I was hoping for.

Meh, 3rd run of the week, consistency not speed......

ah ok it all makes sense now!

with the ipod one u dont have to keep looking at the screen though, apparently it has voice updates that tell you how far youve gone and stuff. I have the nano and will always have it with me when I go out so I think i may go for that and see how it goes.

Aaaah cool, let me know how you upload the info to the website, on the band you unplug the screen from the band and plug it into the usb.

I got the nike thing for my ipod at the weekend. Its on sale at £6 on Argos website if anyone else is interested!

Today after my run Paula radcliffe came on and said well done on burning lots of calories, she gave me a bit of a fright!

Ive got the older Ipod Nano - not the tiny wee one. Will this work with the Nike kit from Argos?

And do you need the shoes? You cant just whack it in yer pocket?

    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
