I'm doing a charity 6K on Sunday, wearing a Santa Suit (all runners have to wear one!). Only doing it so I can do a lap of Pittodrie at the end of the race.

I'm doing a normal 10k this sunday. Following week though i'm doing two xmas runs on the same day!

its been a month since i've been running (pleurisy and bronchitis)

i went last night and it took me just over 10 minutes to do a mile

i am ashamed

Nothing wrong with that. When I first started out (6 months back approx) I was doing 12 min miles and couldn't manage very many miles at all.

I'm now a stone and a half lighter and managing to do 8 min miles. It does get easier.

Santa Race! I didn't realise that there were lots of these events - I'm doing one a week on saturday, 6k also, in Battersea Park. I hope the beard is not too itchy!

This is what I took part in yesterday.

I don't know who measured the course as it was 7.5K not 6K, which was a little bit disappointing considering quite a few of us went over very fast. But it was all for charity though.

Looks like fun :)

I did a 10k race at Crowborough in 51 mins on Sunday. Would have been faster but I slightly sprained my ankle when running through the ford :P

Two races in one day was fun, if ever so slightly tiring!

For some strange reason I finished the first one and felt totally crap. Didn't feel like I ran well at all. Come the second race and I felt great - even though the second race was longer, cross country not a road race, and in some places the mud was at least 2 ft deep!

Legs ache this morning...

Good effort, well done!

I'm finding it tough to run during the festive season but need to get my finger out as I'm doing the "Detox 10K" on the 2nd of January!

Congrats on the 2 races, I think that would have killed me!

I did the London Santa run 6k on saturday which was surreal madness (particularly the warmup - 2000 santas doing star jumps?) but really good fun, everyone running was in great spirits, finished in 39 mins which is really good for me - I am a pretty new runner and though I'm doing OK at getting the distances up, speedy I am definitely not!

Also, running in a santa suit even on a cold day = uncomfortably and pleasantly sticky and hot. The hat particularly, and the beard ended up backwards around my neck in under 30 seconds, I kept breathing it in!! All in all great fun though, I'd definitely do it again.

  • 3 weeks later...

Merry xmas folks.

Got a 5K race tomorrow, and a "Detox" 10K race on the 2nd before starting my half marathon training (race in March).

Not feeling particularly energetic but will give both races a go anyway.

I got this book for xmas, looks like a good read.

Anyone managed a run over the festive period?

Good luck with that mate. :D

I've taken up training again after nearly 15 years of been sat on my arse. I'm obese, but I do walk 8 miles a day. I went for my first mile and a half run yesterday and amazed myself by doing it in just over 12 minutes. Not bad for me really, especially weighing 18 stone.

3 times round the local park (1km x 3) with our dog, thrice in the last 5 days, only stopping to bag dog turds.

A mate wants me to run a half-marathon in Brighton at the end of February, and Mrs T has latched on to it being a damn fine idea (health, & kiddy role-model). Half of me wants to encompass the challenge, and half of me thinks I've not got the body for it these days (tad overweight at 14.5, find running dullish albeit can keep going). Any comments anyone, before I sign up?

Nice one Dave. First step, now get another one down you (a run, I mean).

How do you manage to be 18 stone with a daily 8 mile walk?!?

With great difficulty. At one stage during the summer I was 20 stone, so I have stopped my medications and taken to exercise really hard. Before I finished with the military I used to do army competitions and the last one I did was the Cambrian Patrol around 60km over 2 days carrying well over 60lb of kit. Its my aim to try to reach that level of fitness within the next 12 months.

I went for a slower jog today, as the run has taken the strain on my shins, but that will ease as I lose the weight.

I went for a slower jog today too. Cos my two eldest came along.

Both had stitches after 10 minutes of snail's pace :D But at least they made the effort, and I've been promised another such run shortly.

Meantime, discovering Wii fit.....

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
