If they can't get Sufjan Stevens, Simon & Sofia should definitely try and book the Japanese equivalent (who is in my opinion actually a lot better than SS) - Shugo Tokumaru.

Definitely one for a headlining or co-headlining slot on the Garden stage though - NOT the Woods stage.

Quite a few mentioned already that I'd second, but others I'd love to see next year (either at EotR or NDH):

Built to Spill

Godspeed You! Black Emperor (recording new material!)

Boston Spaceships (Bob Pollard's current band)

Bob Mould

Andrew Jackson Jihad (recently supported Titus Andronicus)

Pine Hill Haints

Ponytail

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists

Chris Leo

Snowglobe (or at least Oh No! Oh My!)

John Vanderslice

Archers of Loaf

The New Year

Do Make Say Think

Evangelicals

Frog Eyes

Surf City

The Verlaines

The Bats

Dean Wareham

Earlimart (if Admiral Radley are booked, then Earlimart should be a given)

Still Flyin'

The Wooden Sky

Sure I could think up plenty more...

Some more:

Dark Dark Dark

Scum

The Burns Unit

The Wave Pictures (again)

The Head and The Heart

Marcus Foster

Cocos Lovers

Musi Kanko

Fruit Bats

The War On Drugs

Dawes

Cashier No 9

Either Low or Calexico to return

Can Shoebox curate the woods stage, Bennyhanna would be good at The Big Top (curating it I mean, although one day I think he really should be somewhere on a stage, maybe deep in the woods) I want to curate the Garden Stage Please!

Nice list of suggestions smile.gif

I would love to see Portishead there - maybe too big a band, though.

Low played a few years ago and their singer threw a guitar into the audience in a bad mood sad.gif

New Pornographers played last year, but seeing as we've had Neko, then NP, then Kathryn in successive years, I think we need, no, deserve, to see NP again smile.gif

Kimya Dawson has played before too, I'd like to see her again.

If there was one thing this year was lacking then it was more Americana and alt. country!

Jim White

Slim Cessna's Auto Club

Jay Munly

Slobberbone

Damien Jurado

The Handsome Family

Johnny Dowd

Blue Mountain

Drive-By Truckers (or Patterson Hood solo)

Peter Bruntnell

Golden Smog

and returns for Richmond Fontaine, Elliot Brood, and Doug Paisley.

Notwithstanding the considerable task I have curating The Big Top, some genuine suggestions for 2012 headliners:

Eels

Bright Eyes (if still a going concern)

PJ Harvey*

Richmond Fontaine

Sigur Ros - you might think this is an impossible match of artist to festival size, but I genuinely don't think SR are 'like that' and could see this as a real possibility

*btw - listened again to Let England Shake today. I continue to be increasingly astonished that so many people on here are 'meh' about this record. Ignoring the obvious influence of the Mercury judges' endorsement, it's just a bloody fantastic album. Knowing now even more about what a lot of you 'like', I really feel some of you need to give this another go. I'd go so far as saying superb.

On another, and blatantly thread-amalgamating, point I'm increasingly falling in love with Lanterns on the Lake. The more I reflect on their Big Top set this year, the more I remember just how great it was. Even more exciting for me was that it was very apparent that they will get better. I've ordered the new album on vinyl and eagerly anticipate its arrival on 19 September - an early birthday present for me! Anyone else blown away by the charming-yet-punch-packing Geordie chamber-post-folk-rockers?

Ben
