Tbf Thiaw is decent but didn't make their team much and felt like he had a mistake in him last season. Playing 50+ games in a team who's system invited pressure probably contributes to that though.

It's relative though, innit? They used to have outstanding defenders and strikers back in the day but the current crop feels like it misses the X factor. And I include Woltemade in that - I like him, but I'm still not sure he's an out-and-out striker. Working out what to do with him feels like part of the challenge for our pre-season work.

Oh I got what you meant, I was just making fun of the fact they're two of our important players.

Recon one of those finger trap things would be effective.

If the bar has been set by both Qatar draping Messi in a traditional robe and all of this stuff, what can Spain do at the next World Cup final to make it look so over the top?

I'm assuming Trump will help himself to a medal like he did with the Club World Cup last year and add to the cave of guady bullshit he's turned the White House into.

He appeared on TV at one point in the first half but didn't hear any booing. Reports are that he was booed heavily when he turned up during the national anthems though.

Decided the half time thing wasn't more for me so watched an old Simpsons episode instead. Take it I didn't miss much.

I remember at the Women's Euros final I attended in 2022 that they had Becky Hill mime to an extremely loud backing track before the game. Didn't feel like it added a lot to my experience tbh.

    • Pressure will be shifted to Israel, but don't think anything is going to happen this side of the election.
    • It's encouraging news, but Israel's withdrawal from Gaza will very much depend on how credible Hamas's commitment to completely disarm is.   In my view they are right to be skeptical.
    • Now we’ll see if Israel are actually capable of winding their necks in    I doubt it
    • Policing is very relaxed, provided you stay within your lines I'd say. I don't think we're supposed to have an event shelter as well as a tent next to our van, but we've done it without issue for years. It's a happy vibe up there.
    • Do feel a lot more cynical about the Mercury now. Given the awards show is now an arena event, there's clearly a pressure on them to nominate mainstream acts in order to sell tickets for it. And not saying that Jade and Knats don't deserve to be nominated (haven't listened to either), but the fact the event is in Newcastle can't have nothing to do with that... (not to mention Fender winning last year, which frankly was a joke)    Hard not to agree with this: https://www.clashmusic.com/features/this-years-mercury-prize-is-a-pivot-towards-the-mainstream/
