2014 was the 1st 7 day one i think.

I don't think it would be a bad idea making it 2+5, with the first 2 being solely Hungarian and surrounding countries.

Similar to how Roskilde do it. 3 + 4, with the 1st 3 days Scandinavian acts.

Checked it quickly. 2019 was the first year when A38 was open on the first day, that was the Ed Sheeran day, but still no Arena until the day after.

So just main stage since 2014?

That’s right. Before that usually Hungarian acts were on the Main Stage on Day 0 and Day -1, with a few exceptions like Prince and Iron Maiden. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Edit: I can totally recall reading an interview with the CEO, that the festival is going to be 7 full days from now on, but I’m not able to find it. Maybe it was supposed to happen in 2020.

Is there any European festivals doing 7 days? Im a fan of long festivals, but perhaps making the lineups a bit thinner in comparison to 3/4 Day ones. I cant imagine Sziget going down the 3/4 day route.

Im still in Budapest....

Not any major sized ones I think. There’s a 10 days long one in Hungary, but it’s a small one. Going down to 3/4 days would definitely kill the festival.

There are a few nice lakes around the city like Rukkel-to, Lupa Beach etc. (Probably easier to got to a bath in the city.) It’s going to be scorching hot in the next few days. I could also recommend some hiking trails in the mountains, but I doubt you need that right now.

(Found the article, didn’t remember correctly. It was in 2022 when they announced that instead of 7 days, it’s going to be a 6 day festival, without Day 0 and Day-1.)

And they said they wanted to keep it as 7, and the city asked for a day less, right? And as an exchange they received a long term contract for the island itself.

If we take five I would think Gorillaz, Swedish House Mafia, Damiano David, Chase & Status and Jungle.
Also Linkin Park if they decide to do two legs of their European tour next year (June / August).

I'd be surprised if they played Sziget. Although absolutely fantastic they are coming back.

I hope you mentioning them earlier will somehow make this come true.

I would hope so, just don't see them fitting in. They are likely to play lots of festivals like primavera, roskilde, APE,  WOW, NOS but dont see them at Sziget. So there will be enough chances to see them.

"During a press conference held at the festival, it was announced that a large-scale development project will begin in the southern part of Óbuda Island with the aim of creating a cultural center. The first attractions of the large-scale development will open at the end of the year.

Krisztián Kiss, CEO of MultiKulti Zrt., also said at the time, that the project is being developed in conjunction with the Sziget Festival, and that this part of Óbuda Island may be included in the festival next year."

    • Generally shorter too, I imagine. 🙂
    • Will that work for arenas with seats? People will have their tickets on their phones and needs to find their seat.
    • Excellent new release from overpass today - well worth checking out.
    • Having lived here for 2 and a half years now my take is that security, safety and organisation are just not a priority in Spain. It's not even exclusive to festivals. It's a part of everything.   Simple example. I'm Irish and in Ireland if you assemble a construction site you have to adhere to a lot of regulations about cordoning off the site so nobody can enter and get injured. Here, you're walking down the foot path and suddenly without any warning you're in a construction site. If not, you'll suddenly find yourself directed onto the road to get around the construction.   Life is more laid back here in general. Pros and cons.
