For this years glasto i have booked a cabin/lodge about a 12 min drive away from glastonbury, i dont mind staying outside the festival if it means a proper bed and proper shower as i have a skin condition and my skin has really suffered in previous festivals without being able to get a proper wash/shower, i just wanted to know whats it like getting taxis to and from the festival and where is the taxi rank at the festival as a friend stayed in an airbnb last year and said it was very easy to get one but just wanted to know other peoples opinions

The taxi drop off point is a few miles away at Bath & West Showground - then you need to get a shuttle bus.

i thought there was a taxi point by one of the gates ?

There is - outside Gate A.  Quite a walk.

To be honest, everyone always says taxis are a pain in the ass with long queues and a lot of faff and costs about £50 per day.

I'd be looking at other options, glamping, campervan etc.

I don't know but I'd be surprised if rural Somerset has much of an uber network.

Can this be used for drop-offs or collection by pre-booked taxis?

Yes, my wife is a teacher so always has to go home on Sunday as school is rarely finished by the time of the festival and she's not allowed to take the last day of the year off (it is finished in time this year, mind you!). I've always walked her out to the rank by PGA (it's not that far, just through the hospitality parking) and always book her a cab back to the airport (just in case there aren't any there available for hire, don't want her stressed about missing her flight). It's pretty straightforward to be honest.

ive stayed in worthy and sticklinch and didnt think they was very good, and other glamping options are extortionate

There’s a new glamping place called Holt Farm that’s less expensive (has PYO as well) that’s been talked about a lot on a separate thread. Not sure if there’s still availability but would be less hassle than taxis every day I think. Maybe worth checking out

Thanks. Good to know.  I assumed it was departures only and you could easily arrive and find no cabs there.

Certainly the one time we tried to get to it in a taxi from Bristol Airport we were sent on to B&W.

Yeah, no problems getting a taxi - you just join the queue at PGA and there is a regular stream of taxis. If it's straight after the headliners have finished you'll probably have a 30 minute or so wait, but there's often options to taxi-share, depending on numbers and direction going.

The 2nd sentence is the official rule. Taxis at Gate A/Bronze have to have official permits to be there and should only be pre-booked ones from local companies. All others should be from B&W.

This is what I got from the festival last year when I emailed to ask them so will be the official answer:
""The taxi rank is at Bronze Gate.  Please note, however, only taxi companies with the relevant passes will be able to access the taxi rank at Bronze Gate. The taxi company should be able to advise whether or not they will have the correct passes.

Alternatively, you could make use of the Drop and Collect point at Bath & West Showground and meet your taxi there. ""

I think the reality is that pretty much all reputable taxi companies within a decent radius have permits!

As others have said the bronze gate taxi drop off is next to Steanbow farm just off the main road. The bronze gate is also where the shuttle buses for glamping sites leave from. It’s about a six or seven minute walk to gate A just past the wicket gate, walking across a field and through the hospitality car parking. Obviously the area will be really busy on arrival and Sunday night/Monday departure day so the 12 minute drive those days is pretty optimistic! The rest of the time will be ok. It all depends where your lodge is, what direction you are approaching the site from whether it’s Glastonbury town or Shepton. Also lots of the smaller roads around the area are either made on way or are closed.
