Was reading an interview from Orla Gartland that touring the US will cost her £40k in loses

I read that too. But still - ouch.

Also not surprising. Makes sense that with the cost of everything going through the roof in the last 4 years that the income musicians were making from touring has taken a dent, particularly outside of the arena/stadium level that still make a profit.

What happened? The last time heard, a band's income had switched from selling their music to performing live. Has it switched back? Or can't they make mo way either way now?

A 90% sold out tour is usually about break-even, before factoring in any costs of a bigger stage show.

Live Nation/Ticketmaster have an absolute strangehold on the live music scene in the USA. They have a major grasp on the big venues here (I think every arena and stadium?), but I think it's 95% of venues over 500 capacity in the states.

Good luck to any artist trying to fight that.

It's terrible, the state of touring in america.  we all know how expensive tickets for Taylor Swift are - americans were buying up tickets to see her in the UK and Europe because with flights and hotel and tickets combined it was still cheaper than seeing her in the US.

And that business practice is already coming over here - see Oasis.

We can all rant and rave about how unfair/exclusionary it is but they don’t care. If it sells out as quickly as the Gallaghers’ shows, from a business perspective that’s a job well done.

Can somebody articulately explain the problem with using OnlyFans as a platform to make money?

I dont see a problem with it.  Sex-work is work, full stop.  It's also a failure of capitalism, if you ask me.  One would hope this is a wakeup call to those who have the power to change things in the music industry (or any industry).  Somehow I don't think it will be though.

If the person feels degraded and doesn't really want to do it, but feels it's the only way they can make money?

If the person is happy with it, I don't think there's a problem. If I could make a living doing it I would - it'd beat being out in the cold, working my hands to the bone all day.

Trouble is though, the person might be happy doing it today, but find they're not so happy with material being out there on the Internet later on in life (e.g. if they become married and have kids, it might change their perspective).
