Kneecap

What Hamas did was undoubtedly evil and should be condemned by everyone, but the scale of Israel's reaction is something else, they are breaking international law, and something needs to be done...but with Trump in office that now looks even unlikelier.  But...if that Oct7th attack had not happened the life of the average Gazan would be infinitely better than it is now...so yes Netanyahu and his government can f**k off, but so can Hamas.

This is all great for Kneecap though because their music is instantly forgettable.

The constraints and conditions that Palestinians were expected to just put up with prior to October 7th were also intolerable.

But I bet they would swap that for what they have now. They had schools and universities and hospitals and parks and sports facilities and markets and some autonomy...now everything has gone and they are literally being starved.

Forgettable? Yet you’ve been here for 3 days talking about them?

I love Kneecaps music, I there a very unique act in modern music.

I think calling a Irish Rap group that sing in gaelic instantly forgettable is a stretch. There performances have wowed.

Although yeah they have had a jump via the controversy but the jump they have had in there career over the last 12 months Is certainly not the career path of an Instantly forgettable act.

It's been a point of debate in our household. I like them, felt they were a breath of fresh air and the Irish language element interesting (I have Irish family, and my wife often ordered our children, now adults, about in Irish so the langauge has been kind of present in our lives for years). Fine Art is a v.decent album. However, my 21 yo son finds their music very basic and claims it sounds like amateurish teenagers 'having a go'. My wife who I thought would be attracted by the language element doesn't approve even when I point to the satire (she actually stayed at the tent while I went to see them at Woodsies last year).  They remind me a bit of earlier rap/hip-hop musically wise which is perhaps why I like them (as an old git!). Anyhows, will leave the rest of you to debate the wider context........

I think a lot of kneecap fans tend to be more punk oriented than rap.

Much like the prodigy were called dance music for rock fans I think you can call kneecap rap for punks.

I do like rap music personally but I'm a mega fan of punk so it makes sense for me.

Perhaps very basic and having a go from your kids is perhaps an indicator of punk element...

Also not subtly steering this thread back towards the music 😉

This is just the most disingenuous sh*t. It's just all so f**king easy.

Good point. Whatever they are I like em and without over thinking it I found the Woodsies set good fun.

..and now Israel are saying they're going to take the whole of Gaza.

Feel bad about what I said about Kneecap's music...that definitely was disingenuous because I haven't really heard much of it. Used to like hip hop when I was young, all the late 80s stuff, and public enemy would likely very much approve of Kneecap.

I see we’ve reached the victim blaming part. As though Israel’s genocidal intentions weren’t clear before Oct 7th.

all Israel has done is increased the rate of killing.

Genocidal intentions? There was no genocide going on in Gaza before Oct 7th. Israel were happy for Hamas to stay put because they opposed a two state solution and were enemies of Fatah and so split Gaza from West Bank. That all ended on Oct 7th and there are ultra nationalists in Netanyahu's govt who actively want the war to continue and want a greater Israel and it looks like they are getting want they want.

And again, I reckon most Gazans would like to go back to how things were pre Oct 7th, but maybe I'm wrong and they haven't noticed.

You appear to be struggling to understand the phrase “genocidal intentions”. Israel and the west have been dehumanising Palestinians for decades.

but yea keep on blaming the victims.

I see we’ve reached the whataboutery phase. Both these groups aren’t currently carrying out a genocide nor is our government supporting them.

No, they're not....but you were talking about genocidal intentions.

I am simply arguing that Hamas are not heroic resistance fighters or whatever, they are extremist maniacs who have led the people they are supposed to represent and protect into a humanitarian disaster.

I am what is known as both siding it. f**k Israel. f**k Hamas.

You were the one victim blaming. Now you’ve thrown your car into reverse and are attempting a different direction.

Any specific examples?

The guy the book is about had some great quotes like calling people in Israel descendants of apes and pigs or things like - "The Jews invented the legend of the Nazi atrocities"

ok, whatever. I really can't be arsed with you said this no you said that and some weird car driving metaphors.

I was just saying...and it will be last time I say it, promise...I expect most Gazans would like to go back to how things were pre Oct 7th.
