Climate Change

Agree. Just reading about this project - apparently has the capacity to power upto 17% of uk homes. Each turbine is 355m with the first 50 or so meters underwater. Absolute beasts!

The rspb says it’ll kill a few hundred birds a year, I’m not sure what that means regards the total population in that area, but seems like a small price to pay in the broader context tbh. And like, the UK coastline is pretty big. I’m fairly sure that kittiwakes and puffins will persist in other locations.

Everything has been early this year as far as nature is concerned

Another thing with this Polanski leadership win..there seems to be less emphasis on actual green things and climate change. Labour never talking about climate change when talking about their net zero policies, it's all energy security and savings and growth. Tories are in process of becoming climate sceptic and ditching net zero, Reform who are leading the polls already are. Do Lib Dems ever talk about it? Does anyone? There aren't any Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil protests anymore. Greta Thunberg is all about Gaza these days. Is it all over?

From what I hear from people in the UK O&G business it's basically about whether to wring the last thimblefull out of the North Sea, or two. And thus just political posturing.

Witness the recent news about the discovery of 134million barrels by Norwegian Aker- a company designed to go after the small/less economical to recover stuff as all the big names withdraw from the North Sea-  damningly touted as 'the biggest discovery in a decade'. By my reckoning 134mb is a just a few months worth at the UK's current (much reduced) production levels.

It's just wasting time over the inevitable pivot away from reliance on the North Sea that's baked in
