Whoever is responsible and however it happened, this thing needs to end.

think this situation is fully down to Hamas.

its not like anyone is surprised at Israel's response, nothing unexpected has happened.

Honestly...just feels like this could be something that could spark something big. There has to be a ceasefire. They're not going to hand over the hostages, not unless they get something in return, prisoners probably.

Yes. If this was supposed to be about security then it seems like a strange way to secure it. Even without the possibility of regional escalation, they have sown the seeds of radicalisation and guaranteed the production of a new generation of Hamas fighters.

according to most people just Israel being Israel is enough to do that.

IDF saying it's a failed Hamas rocket launch.

For Israel Thats better than the hospital having been hit by a hamas rocket.

This type of thing is why it’s best to wait for independent observers to tell us what’s happened before we go blaming any sides. There’s so much miss-information out there.

If Israel have done this on purpose, not only is it an act of pure evil, but it is also really f**king stupid.

Almost certainly done on purpose.

But why is it stupid. As I've already said there will be no repercussions from the west

The bombs must stop now - Israeli church leader

Quote

Al Ahli hospital is funded by the Anglican Church, and Richard Sewell, Dean of St George’s College – one of the church's top figures in Jerusalem – has posted on X

, formerly Twitter, that the hospital in Gaza took “a direct hit from an Israeli missile”.

He says early reports suggest hundreds of women and children have been killed, and calls the act the “deliberate killing of vulnerable civilians”.

“The bombs must stop now. There can be no possible justification for this."

As we've reported, the Israeli military has not confirmed their forces were behind the attack.

At least two sides to every story

Israel's military says 'a hospital is not an IDF target'

The BBC's international editor Jeremy Bowen says he has received a statement in a phone call from the spokesperson’s office of the Israel Defence Forces, reacting to what Palestinian officials have said was an Israeli strike on the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza.

The statement says "a hospital is a highly sensitive building and is not an IDF target."

"The IDF is investigating the source of the explosion and as always is prioritising accuracy and reliability."

"We urge everyone to proceed with caution when reporting unverified claims of a terrorist organisation."

But there could be from its neighbours (and also west will lose patience with them)

Maybe from its neighbours, but there's never been anything more than words from the west in 75 years, why will anything change now.

not sure , depends on the assurances made by Israel to US that they won't be hitting civilian targets , its pretty embarrassing for Biden to have backed them like he has and this to have happened  ..... not sure if that's enough or not though

IDF says hospital blast caused by militants' rockets

The Israel Defense Forces have posted on X, formerly Twitter, that they believe the strike against the Al Ahli hospital was from a rocket barrage fired by Palestinian militants.

The IDF post in full is:

Quote Message: An analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit. Intelligence from multiple sources we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza."

Unfortunately we are in an age where people will believe what they want to believe and if it’s something they don’t want to believe will just question its validity. Whatever’s happened it’s tragic to see more unnecessary deaths, hopefully some good can come of the tragedy and it starts off a move to peace. Unfortunately I can see it getting worse before it gets better.

I hadn’t really noticed Yousaf much before but his leadership on this topic, even given his personal ties, has been impressive. I heard his speech to SNP conference too and thought he spoke very well on independence.

He’s the kind of guy who seems to do better the more airtime he gets. I think the SNP will perform better than most expect in an election campaign.

Blast at hospital from 'rocket aimed at Haifa' - Regev

Quote

More from Mark Regev, the senior adviser to the Israeli Prime Minister, who has told BBC News it is the belief of the Israeli authorities that a Hamas rocket was to blame for the blast at the Al Ahli hospital.

"We know that at the time of this tragedy in Gaza, there was a huge barrage against targets in central Israel. We had the siren here in Tel Aviv, and I went to a bomb shelter," he said.

"We know they fired rockets at that same time. Hamas put out a statement that they were sending a long-range rocket on Haifa [northern Israel] at this time."

"Now no rocket actually reached Haifa. Where did that rocket go? Where did it land?"

The BBC is working to verify what caused the blast at the Al Ahli hospital, which Hamas authorities have blamed on the Israeli military.
