so...labour's non diverging from EU rule takers thing has got some press this morning, bit of rowing back from Labour when maybe they should just hold the line.

Also Labour saying they will strengthen power of OBR...I guess after Truss this is now considered sensible.

Also...has Sunak f**ked up with that net zero ditching thing? It definitely was a risky strategy/ Might win over some support I guess...but may also lose loads too...and car/battery/tech/energy industry f**ked off with all the uncertainty....and just undermines how this country looks internationally when we were at the forefront with good old boris.

in other news.........

Imagine  a world where a power station runs entirely on tidal power storing energy it does not need there and then in batteries and using that power station to create hydrogen from sea water.

It does not get any greener and cleaner than  that and it would be cheap, very cheap, once up and running......................

and the EU is investing billions in companies that are looking at hydrogen power and production and this is one model they are looking at and working on................. a shame the UK government has pledged little or nothing and is giving subsidies to oil companies instead.

The OBR thing is a fantastic shout, and another thing that separates Labour from the Tories. To me this is a perfect example of being tough/sensible on economic matters, and actually it theoretically has more impact on Labour in the short-medium term assuming they get into power. So a very good show of faith that they are happy to be open and transparent about their plans. 

And yeah maybe they've overestimated how well received the net zero debacle would be. Good.

 

Edit: Short-medium term... Ie. The next 5-10 years from them getting into power.

Well they don't say no to anything, they just produce forecasts - if borrowing for green crap was going to result in damage to the economy, then government should be at least be transparent about it. That was one of the biggest issues with Truss, that they refused to publish forecasts alongside (or didn't give them time to produce them, rather).

ok...but still will limit what Labour might be able to do...considering the amount that needs spending on public services and capital and now all this net zero stuff.

OBR forecasts should always be delivered alongside new budgets, and normally are. Truss was an anomaly, they're just suggesting regulation to ensure that doesn't happen again which is the right thing to do. Even without regulation, Labour trying to push through a green agenda that would mess up the economy, without waiting for OBR forecasts, would and should be met with anger.

I think it's better if it's clear he's not returning us to the EU so the Tories don't find it useful to make the claim that he will.

yeah, I don't know if it was a f**k up...or they were just testing the waters...or they meant to say it but freaked when media started reporting it...or what? But this will keep getting brought up. If you're going to say things like we don't want to diverge from EU rules then own it, stick with it..maybe just be honest. We stay out of EU, but align with their rules in a lot of cases to reduce friction etc...and yes we'll be rule takers but we still won't have free movement of people swamping out shores with their continental ways and hard work ethic. So now they're back tracking and no one knows what they stand for, including on the EU side.
