Isnt that whats gonna happen anyway when he rejoins to Tory party?

First past the post encourages extremism by making people feel like they have no voice.

I’d rather have farage as PM leading a far right party on 20% with his wings clipped by a coalition than farage as PM with a tory majority and carte blanche to do what he likes.

The Sverige Democrats propping up the Swedish govt here is preferable to a Trump, Bolsonaro, Milei situation.

What I hear is that the far right is on the rise, liberals arent so enamoured with democracy anymore. I heard some centrist podcast praising the French system lately basically because Macron was able to win and has a lot of executive power. But what happens when Le Pen wins next time and has the same executive power?

Rigging democracy to give you the result you want only works for so long. So short sighted.

it's the direction...Wilders can say stuff like he'll ban mosques and have zero immigration and then win...and maybe he can't get what he wants in coalition, but people will see that and think woo...there's something in this...and then some one else comes along and says we'll kick out all muslims and bring back hanging and they win etc etc...

Hope you’re all watching Spaffer at the enquiry. To say he is out of his depth is an understatement

I'm suprised he found the venue.

I've watched/listened to some of it. Think he's doing ok, nothing unexpected. He certainly proportioning blame like others have...I'm actually willing to cut him some slack on our covid response in hindsight.

Are you watching the same thing? He literally said if he looked at the data he was given then he would have acted differently

Lots of important meetings he was either away for or couldn’t be bothered attending as he thought it was just the flu.

I’m wondering why the government didn’t act regardless. He is clearly an idiot so why wait for him to get his act together.

I'm giving him/them some slack because it is a massive decision to lock down the country, in terms of the economic damage, but also societal damage. I understand why they might try and find alternatives, but sounds like they were just an indecisive mess in those early months, and meanwhile covid was doing it's exponential thing and the numbers coming out of other countries were looking bad.

but Johnson was obviously the wrong man for the job ...he doesn't like hard, detailed work...or at least this sort of hard, detailed work...and he is a liberal to his bones so putting restrictions on people's lives is against everything he is for (apart from free movement between europe and UK the twat).

But would Sunak have been better? Would Corbyn? Obviously Starmer would 🙂

Thought it was already common knowledge. We were going to do a Sweden until prof Ferguson ran his sim city for viruses simulation and we then paniced and locked down. Pretty sure America ended up doing the same thing and locking down on Fergusons predicted numbers.

Corbyn/Labour were calling for more restrictions if not a full on lockdown in the weeks leading up to the first lockdown. They would’ve also made sure more people were looked after financially too.

Boris has just mentioned it 😄

The half a million deaths number was delivered by him on March 16th. On March 23, the UK scrapped the Sweden plan and decided to go the lockdown route.

I think its unlikey any government would of gone against sage which appeared to be a power struggle between Whitty and Prof Ferguson in the run up to lockdown. The more aggressive alternative/fake sage were not formed until May 2020

And that was entirely a political organisation which had very little to do with science and everything to do with political lobbying.  Totally incomparable to real Sage.  Whitty said this himself during the inquiry.

Sadly a few poster around here fell for it.

Yes set up by Carole Cadwalladr who has been completely discredited since by a court case involving Arron Banks

    • I've been told beer will be cheaper until 6pm. Anyone can confirm?   Not like i'll drink more than 1-2 in 38 C degrees.
    • This!   Biffy Clyro I don't think would ever get asked, I just don't think it us their scene and it certainly wouldn't be a wise move for them after how the Finsbury Park show went. If they ever had a chance of regaining or staying a bit higher up taking Slam Dunk isn't how you do it. For the cost of it now I think being into the main headliner does make a difference though.
    • Sabrina I actually think is alright, but as an overall thing including Fontaines in the mix it does look very boring.
    • I went to the O2 show as had cheap NHS tickets. I did love the whole Machine Gun Kelly vs MGK Emo/Pop Punk stuff amusing and could see that show going down well. I thought it was so funny watching the video skits of a die hard old skool fan gradually morphing in to an Emo Kid. That show with less old Machine Gun Kelly tunes and more MGK Pop-Punk would be ace.   Pair him against a heavy act on the other stage and jobs a goodun,
    • Not sure if this is allowed, but I have an additional daily ticket which I’m willing to sell for a heavily reduced price. If you, or someone you know wants to go that day, but wouldn’t for the original price, let me know.    Edit: It’s for Friday
