Last thing Biden needs on the inflation / cost of living crisis front is this port in Baltimore being taken out of commision. Apparently one of the busiest in the U.S for imports.

A curio given that the most recent poll I had seen (WSJ) suggested Trump still has a marginal lead. But I've been saying for most of 2024 so far that it was still pretty much 50/50 and that the Biden campaign has time to turn it around. Plus it wasn't like the Biden campaign was being pummelled in the polls like the UK Tories or several other European leaders are in current polls.

currently it looks close...so who knows. Campaign could be interesting..will Biden manage a long and exhausting campaign? Last time it was kind of during covid restrictions so easier.

Yeah but Trump is now in his late 70s, has to juggle the campaign around multiple high-profile legal cases and looks increasingly rambling in his public pronouncements, to the point where a whole raft of people are trying to diagnose him with an assortment of mental medical conditions. So it's not as if a long and exhausting campaign around those commitments will be any easier.

I say that, it is still bewildering we're seeing an old man vs an old man for the job. Indeed it's why I felt Republicans should've backed Haley, but clearly they just couldn't help themselves.

Biden looks like the walking dead.

There was a clip of him used on The Daily Show the other day where yeah, he wasn't exactly looking young. But then he is 80. There aren't many people out there who in their 80s look recognisably similar to the way they do in their 40s.

    • Any festival is going to face most of the same limitations just by the nature of the event. It's not realistic to accommodate custom staging that extends out deep into the field. Trying to do so and trying to rebuild those kind of structures at the front of the field every day would severely impact on other performers, potentially even including other headliners. It'd also drive everyone involved insane. The most you can get away with is a basic extension that doesn't hide anything fancy. Remember that a lot of the time on these big choreographed shows, the stage extension itself will contain all manner of things to help the show beyond just being a simple platform. Also remember that these structures are designed to be assembled and operate on perfectly flat stadium or arena floors.   In terms of the stage itself - yes, the Pyramid is undersized (I believe 16 metres wide at rigging level). The de facto industry standard has become 20 metres and so it likely does need increasing and apparently there are plans to do so. But that only helps with artists that can largely confine themselves to the stage.   The Other Stage is already 20 metres - to be exact the Other Stage structure is the same model that Serious Stages provide to Reading, Leeds, Download etc for use as their Main Stage and there's nothing larger (at least off the shelf) in their catalogue. So no reason to change that.
    • Can someone remind me, on Harry Styles specifically - have we had any concrete info on him?   I don't personally remember saying much/anything on him, though I have just been away for a month, so could be forgetting something.
