It really is crucial they stop Trump winning.

The clips I've seen are awful. I know they'll be the worst examples but noone is saying Biden did well. The Guardian reports are brutal. They have to replace him somehow.

I mean, if nothing else, there were some decent barbs here.

 

But what little I've seen looked deeply unimpressive. There's a definite case that both Democrats and Republicans owe America an apology for this sh*t. Trump is still a bullshitter whose own performance was pretty poor, but Biden's 170-year-old performance is the only thing people are gonna recall from this. Sucks, but it is what it is.

 

That moment where Biden's train of thought cascaded from an answer about an abortion to a line Trump has been keenly going on about a woman murdered by an illegal immigrant was a particular low.

 

And yet, so far, they seem to be sticking by him. Which is bold.

He has to want to stand down, and it seems he doesn't want to. He probably thinks he can still beat Trump.

Apparently other potential candidates might not be interested, would prefer to stand in 2028/2029 and not this current sh*t show...which leaves Harris...and may as well let her have a go. 

I think Trump will win in November, and a lot of the fault of that will be this.

By consensus, Biden sounded more on it during both post-debate remarks last night and this event. Which begs the question of what his preparation was to leave him so wayward for the debate itself.

 

In any case a lot of big name Democrats are still coming out to bat for him, including many named as likely alternate candidates, plus Hillary and Barack. Whether that's enough to stem the tide of left-leaning columnists demanding he drop out is another question.

 

Pretty much the only alternative is an open convention, which given how the open convention of 1968 lead to a fiasco and was among the factors that handed Nixon the White House and a substantial reform of Presidential primaries. Basically, feels like it's asking for trouble. And that's despite the fact the 1968 situation was forced on the Democrats by Lyndon B Johnson resigning and RFK being assassinated and a lack of consensus on who should be Plan C.
