Pretty much, and given this came hot on the heels of a judgement that Trump has been fined over $300million for business malpractice, he is going to need a lot of punters.

Though given he was booed by attendees of a trainers convention where these were launched, can't say it's off to a bright start.

It's an interesting situation, given Michigan has a large Arab-American diaspora and university cities full of younger people who've been infuriated by America's support of Israel's actions since October 7th, and in a state that is likely again to be a battleground state having gone for Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020 by slender margins each time.

In saying that, it will be curious to see what the mood is like here in November. For a primary where no Democrat has really challenged Biden, it's a fairly valid and effective way to get attention. The stakes are different when confronted with the return of an ex-President who, if anything, would likely be even more supportive of Netanyahu's government and less helpful to Palestine based on his behaviour when he was in office, as noted here.

Hell, as the article notes, Netanyahu said he wanted Trump to win in 2020 while one of his mouthpieces has already spoken up support for Trump. Something local Dems on the ground might want to communicate better in the seemingly very likely event that this is a wedge issue.

There's still 8 months to go, so there is still time for either Biden to turn it around or people to look more at Trump/his platform and go "... oh f**k no, no, no"

I agree it's not ideal that in a month or two, the numbers have barely moved, but the close-ness of both national and state polls suggest this could still change. Plus given US election polls on the morning of the 2016 election were saying Hillary to win, we still have to question their reliability. But even then, these can move. At this point in 1992, polls were saying Ross Perot to win and well, that happened.

It is curious tbf that some polls I saw yesterday suggested Nikki Haley might actually have a larger national poll number against Biden, but ofc she's basically finished in the primaries at this point.

I'm not exactly saying this is ideal, more that we have two candidates that do this sh*t all the time. It's a weird situation where the two main and likely only contenders are two old men who seem to have a success if they avoid mixing things up in one speech. But it's also imo where a different question should be asked, which is as much on who is around the candidate as it is the candidate themselves.

There's a curiosity to this, because as people were noting last year, there was a dissonance between statistics demonstrating the US economy was actually doing quite well, but it wasn't translating to people feeling the economy was doing so good.

Maybe this requires a messaging tweak, where the campaign should say that while they think progress is being made, it's clearly not been enough if a lot of people aren't really liking where it's at but that there is potential in this plan and not to throw it out for a radical economic overhaul that would likely cause a lot of short-term pain as some economists have suggested Trump's plans would cause.

There's a dissonance at play, given all 9 justices were on board but the 5 right-leaning justices went much harder in their interpretation, essentially almost like they're trying to block the January 6th riot being seen as an insurrection.

Perhaps the bigger surprise is that neither one has officially secured their party's nomination just yet.

But it does seem as though for yesterday, most of the attention was on things like choosing senator or governor candidates.
