Although not all of the acts are for me, I wouldn't say that they have booked any 'shit bands; at all.

Its still one of the strongest line-ups across the board in Europe right now, if not THE strongest.

Thursday/Saturday are strong, I don't see Friday and Sunday any stronger than you'd expect. I think KOL have gone way down hill myself though so while AF/KOL looks strong on paper it doesn't really hit. Obviously Saturday is a good day for me but even then LP are not what they were. A bit like Nova Rock where some have said back when they were finishing school it's perfect, this lineup is a bit take it back to 2010-2012 and it's spot on.

Give me a stronger lineup in Europe announced so far.

Well the market isn't there for rock bands so it's really unlikely for a band to achive a huge following and sell the way soad or linkin park sold in the 2000s. So unless they go and start booking crap edm djs and pop stars as headliners, I think we can't have bands that are not already past their prime(at least in terms of the success) as headliners

I'm really curious what kind of bands have you seen exploding after 2010 and achieving potential werchter headliner status.

I really feel there is nothing to bash in terms of headliners on this year's edition. The undercard may turn out to be a little weaker, but let's wait.

I didn't say there was one did I?, but I actually like Nova Rock overall more. I think Pendulum Live....the only fest in early summer in Europe so far for them and Rancid swing it for me. But tbh when Glasto announce their last two, Radiohead, Ed and FF with Gaga as a sub will beat it imo. Added to that Glasto will probably have Lorde as well who will be seen as big as she's fairly rare. If we are going on Legends too, it's the only festival that is most likely going to have Diana Ross. I don't think any other fest in Europe that gaga would play could get her below headliner.

Quite.

But it is definitely skewed towards the first two days as far as I can see.

For me skewed towards 1st and 3rd but hat's personal taste.

I don't disagree with that dude, it's not I'm slating RW as a lineup but I don't see it overall the massive lineup that some do. KOL for example haven't been booked by Reading for 8 years and there is way too many options around next year that I don't even see them in the equation to return. For me, I wouldn't be pissed to not be there on Thursday or Friday, it's FF and Saturday that are doing it for me. I used to be huge on LP but they wouldn't draw me in now for somewhere an hour up the road.

Glasto is a special case tbh, not really a good example as it is so hard to get the tickets. To be honest, nova rock is the only one that gives an honest competition to rw, excluding glasto and it seems very likely to stay that way as the august headliners names announced are not really that solid, so sziget, pukkelpop and the rest could suffer. But bear in mind that nova rock has already completed most of the bill. Pendulum are still contenders even for werchter, as they have announced just two dates so far, I think.

But what you are saying is all personal taste, not what's a strong lineup. Most of weather lineup so far isn't my cup of tea, you can't argue with the bunch of headers and subs though.

By size of bands and the likes of kol still are still huge, it's a massive set of headliners/subs I've been going to festivals for 25 years and can't think of any UK fest in that time to equal this year's at werchter.

It is but they still have to agree. I actually like a lot of the names bounded about for August.

Oh I agree with that but I don't believe KOL are still a strong headliner option....especially at Werchter when I was beginning to think they were going to headline every year at one point. Not sure about massive subs entirely, we have to remember that- not everyone who is huge huge in the UK is in Europe, ID are just a sub, Alt-J the same and I'm unsure on RH sub but for me I can't actually see either of them as huge but I get OATW are. The comparison with UK isn't straight forward though as has been said there is less in Europe, less fees to pay and thus generally cheaper festivals.

Just to remind somethings :

Foo Fighters - Headliners of Open'er 2017 + so many more

Radiohead - Headliners of Glastonbury 2017 + so many more

Arcade Fire - Headliners of Primavera 2017 + so many more

Kings of Leon - Headliners of Pinkpop 2017 + so many more

Linkin Park - Headliners of Hellfest 2017 + so many more

System of a Down - Headliners of Rock am Ring 2017 + so many more

Blink 182 - Headliners of Nova Rock 2017

Oscar and The Wolf - Headliners of Down The Rabbit Hole 2017

Alt-J - Headliners of IN Music Festival 2017

Imagine Dragons - Headliners of Colours of Ostrava 2017

Lorde - Headliner of Governor's Ball 2017

The Lumineers - Headliners of Life is Beautiful 2016

Dropkick Murphys - Headliners of Beautiful Days 2015

James Blake - Headliner of Field Day 2016

Future Islands - Headliners of Pygmalion Festival 2016

How do you call that ? Isn'it the strongest line-up in the world ? We could make the list of headliners longer if they add The Killers or The Weeknd next week... So I'm forced to disagree with you @thewayiam , the line-up is not arguable, even if you don't like some bands on it (personally I'm not a fan of Alt-J, Lorde, Oscar and the Wolf, and James Blake, but I'm happy with it cause Rock Werchter is not only rock'n'roll, and in 2017 every festival have 'chill' acts, but not as successful ones)

So your argument is by naming headliners at other big fests and undercard acts that are headliners at smaller fests....which is pretty normal.

If an act is bigger somewhere else than Belgium which has random huge acts....Editors for example than don't top any other bill I don't believe anywhere then they are.

Just for argument sake editors are headlining lowlands in Holland this summer, also headlined main square in France last year.

Yeah, Editors are huge in Belgium but still,  RW book an international big act that can headline everywhere like Depeche Mode or RHCP to co-headline with them.

They are still an act huge in those places but small in the UK. It's not an argument.

I'm not disputing they do.

It's a decent line-up. It will get better.

Look at where we were this time last year!

It seemed to take ages to take ages to come together, but on the whole it was decent.

This year is already pretty decent and there is much more to come.

So relax.

Indeed no need to worry  (yet)

Pleased with yesterday's announcement, Lorde Is a massive curveball! Anyone know where to start with James Blake?

Gave the Oscar and the Wolf album a go, looking at the poster imagine he will be headlining the barn or closing after Radiohead.

Oscar will play BEFORE radiohead.

Guess James Blake will headline the barn or so

Well, I don't understand why wouldn't james blake be earlier on the main stage, maybe the 3rd or 4th act... I wouldn't take too much notice just based on the font size

James Blake would fit better in a tent Imo. Last year he headlined Klub C and he was perfect (so perfect that I fell asleep during his last song but it may have been too much alcohol during the day :D:D )

This might happen, but the question is whether playing the mainstage 4th is an upgrade from KluB C headliner or not.

Maybe 3rd on main stage would be a bit more likely?

It would seem very strange to me to have James Blake clashing with Radiohead, you'd think they'd have someone completely different.

I am very optimistic still, if the minimum amount of acts is 75 then we've only got 20% of the line up so far!

I think it depends from the running order (headline/co-headline structure).

I mean, last year James Blake began 40 min after Macca finished his live so it's not sure the headliner of each stage will clash with other headliners.

No way that they're putting James Blake as 3rd or 4th on Main Stage. That huge stage in the afternoon (possibly in the burning sun) is the worst possible context to see a James Blake show. And while it's true that we shouldn't look too much into the current poster yet, James Blake is obviously put in a higher category than the bands I'd assume to take an afternoon Main Stage spot (Dropkick Murphys, possibly The Lumineers).

But 15 out of 80-85 acts is just too early to draw conclusions. Last year's poster had 3rd down Main Stage acts and Barn subs in the same font size as the Main Stage subs and tent headliners. So for all we know Oscar could be 3rd down and James Blake could be subbing the Barn.

I agree with everything you wrote bit I also want to point something regarding the difference between recent years posters and this year poster: This time they did separate FF and Radiohead from other headliners,  something they didn't do before. You can see it both in the all-lineup page at the website and in the poster in facebook before the daily separation (FF and Radiohead above,  then Thursday headliners and then Saturday headliners).
