Hello people. This year will be my first solo experience at glasto, 4th year going tho. Would love to camp up with fellow solo glasto'ers. I usually leave on the Tuesday midnight to get there nice and early and get a decent camping spot. Will be driving from West London near Heathrow if anyone wants a lift up there I have 3 seats going so just let me know

Hello everyone,

My first time at Glastonbury this year but I am working with Oxfam and heading down on the Monday. Is there any fellow workers on here willing to be a solo camper with me open minded and up for a laugh. friends will be arriving on the Wednesday but would love to make friends with fellow workers who are there earlier.

I did work for Oxfam the last couple years, but am going as public this time round.

As a worker, you're not supposed to camp in the public areas - you're expected to camp in the Oxfam Fields (On the shiny new map, find Purple Car Park 1 - Oxfam have the 2 fields immediately to the left of it, one coloured green and a slightly smaller one coloured white).

I would suggest joining the Oxfam Stewards facebook group if you haven't already, as that's the place you'll find lots of people in the same situation and get lots of useful information from the Oxfam organisers.

Once you get on site, Oxfam have a big marquee in which you can socialise etc - hang around there for a bit and it won't be difficult to talk to people and find people to go exploring with. Make sure you take full opportunity to check out the site on Monday evening / Tuesday, if you've not been before you might be surprised at just how big it is so it's worth getting your bearings before time becomes precious. I'd especially recommend finding (and remembering the location of) the staff bars. There should be at least 4 of them open on Mon/Tues, and probably more like 6.

Hi,

First timer for Glastonbury and first timer for a music festival of any kind, the wife is convinced I'm having a mid-life crisis :), felt I had to make the effort this year as some of my favourite bands are there.

Would be interested in camping with other solo-campers, have no real idea of the scale of Glastonbury other than its "big", Cant travel until the Thursday tho so bit worried might be left pitching tent next to the toilets :(

My first festival was Glastonbury too and I can confirm that it's going to blow your mind. Definitely a good idea to camp with these guys, will give you a good base to explore from. You are going to have the best time, I'm so jealous.
Charm x

Surely I will be able to go see my friends for most of the night/day after my shift and just return to the campsite to sleep and get ready for my next shift?

Yes, of course. They do still let you enjoy the Festival when you're not working.

This thread seems to have gone quiet?

It's been quiet for well over a week now mate. I'm unsure of what I'm doing as far as camping is concerned now, I'm not sure I want to be on the outskirts so will probably camp further in and just impose my social awkwardness on my neighbours!

Sorry for the quietness folks

Scully who we left in charge of speaking to everyone who expressed an interest in joining the group is away with work at the moment and i dont think he's been organised and kept on top of his inbox

I'll message him and ask him to get onto it as soon as he's back

Worst case scenario ask around in Darble on arrival, I reckon.  Last year we were on the left hand side as you walk down the hill past the lockups, hard to miss as we took up a fair chunk of that part of the field from the path inwards.

Any news on this? Was supposed to be added to the group by Scull on Sunday but heard nothing back yet. Defintiely don't want to be doing this festival completely on my own haha.

D-low, inbox me, as far as I can see you haven't sent me a message. I need your details to add you.

As Bethany is not joining this year we'll need a new camp flag.

All under control good sir B)

I'm going to give Han a bit of TLC and bring him (and Fluff's flagpole!) along with me. Then come and see you guys for the handover. And a drink and a catch up, of course!

I went alone to my second Glastonbury in 2003, had a fantastic time. There's pros and cons either way, it's great to have good company but on the other hand it's great to not have to worry about leaving your group while you go your separate ways to see different bands, and worrying about trying to find them next to an ice cream van or summat. Still got talking to loads of lovely people along the way and just had a fantastic time. That said, if this thread was around in 2003 I'd have probably had a word.

Going sort of alone, with 18yr old son who will be down a day late due to A levels. Would be nice for both of us not to have to suffer each others musical tastes and not feel too guilty
