This thread has reminded me why I stopped posting a few years back.  Of course I always knew that my political views would be in the minority on here, that much is obvious,  but posted again on the subject to test the waters, in the vain hope that this forum had matured enough to have a debate rather than descend into  the easy, childish, "there's more of us than you" personal insults and narrow minded predjudice.

Sadly that's not the case.

I think it can be summed up nicely by the number of upvotes Russycraps got when he launched into his first unprovoked and childish rant.

I think this says everything about this person's character, intelligence level and class.  The fact that it got upvoted tells you all you need to know about those people too.

Sure, but you have to balance that about extraordinarily biased media and the fact that your lot are actually in power.

The way you feel looking at this forum - being attacked, hounded, alone with no-one to support you - is the way a huge amount of posters here feel every day in their lives, and they can't just close the browser on living.

How old are you Teddington?

Old enough to remember Callaghan, the power cuts and shit piling up in the streets, waiting 2 months to get a phone (the colour decided by the GPO). Old enough to remember some people wearing the communist badge without understanding that Stalin killed more then Hitler.

you want respect you dont get it by backing a bunch of vile cowardly right wing dickheads and then getting offended when people dont like them.........simple as. I have as much respect for tory voters as I do the bnp, ukip, edl mob....that is to say NONE! the ruin your party are bringing to this country and yet we`re the bad guys for `not giving you a chance`....laughable! your party speaks for you simple as it takes a special kind of ugly mindset to back that shit

Not particulary.  I wanted a debate, but it seems some are incapable.

You didn't answer that either. You answer questions by giving cryptic answers.

No, I don't believe you were slap bang in the middle of it.

You seem incapable of giving any direct answer, instead always replying with some sort of anecdotal claim which supports your ideology.

Just a number, that's all I was asking for.

Deano I fully expected to be sticking my head above the parapet on this forum, and clearly I am going to be in the minority.  I don't mind being attacked, but I would rather it be in the form of counter argument and debate.

Personal insults are like water off a ducks back, (and quite obviously I really couldn't give a toss about my "downvotes").  However, they are boring, predictable and clutter up the debate.

Anyway this shouldn't be about me, it should be about politics.

I was in the middle of a debate with you and then you suddenly started ignoring me, and are still carrying on now, very strange.

Sorry Zac, I didn't deliberately ignore you.  I will scroll back and find your post.

Ok found it.

Well I disagree with you and here's why.

One is the rantings of a potty mouthed forum poster.

The other is a believe that you cannot have equality.  You should strive for equal opportunity (and of course there will be debate over the degree of this, but equality is not something to be strived for).

Let me give you an example.

Under equality, what would be the incentive for someone to go to work?

If everyone is equal (money, assets etc) then why would I work, or if I did go to work why would I work hard, do a "dangerous" job, or a job that demanded unsociable hours etc etc

it is about the politics, you get the abuse you do BECAUSE of your politics.......some things are unforgivable....one of them is backing the current crop of bullying sadists

That's the point.  Instead of abuse tell me WHY the politics are wrong.  What the alternative could be.  etc etc

There is a difference between looking for a debate and goading in order to induce a response, then acting all offended at that response.  It isn't like we haven't all seen the behaviour of those who never grew out of their playground bully behaviour.

To be fair none of my posts about Hillsborough, orgreave or the beanfield had any gutter level or personal insult and you didn't engage or respond to any of them.

The only responses you've made have been to the insults.

Again, apoligies if this was the case.  Let's start then.

Hillsborough - absolutely sickening how the cover up was created and followed through. Disgusting and those that participated in it need to be tried and if found guilty, jailed.

Beanfield- Police overreacted (wasn't that long after the miners strike iirc), however, the whole thing could have been avoided if the "peace convoy" heeded the warnings.

I thought it was about Glastonbury? And that side's been covered off fairly well - there's some left-wing campaigning about Glastonbury because it's in it's history and it fits the politics of those who run and support it. I'm not sure what else there is to say about it?

For general debate you might have more luck in the general forum.

Terrible argument. Ever met a nurse?

A friend of mine is a paramedic, she definitely doesn't do that for the money.

Not to mention the flawed argument that equality means everyone gets paid exactly the same.

Even in the soviet union there were Doctors, Teachers, Scientists, Poets and Painters, all sorts of varied working lives, all of which people aspired to, not for the advantages financially (which many professions DID offer) but for the desire to do the work.  In the soviet union many advances in medicine, science, mathematics and other fields came from these people.

Socialism dictates that life should be: from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.  Is that a terrible prospect?  That those who can give should give and those who are in need should receive?

It is the same kind of blind rhetoric which means that people do not understand the difference between commerce and capitalism.
