are there really sniffer dogs? didn't see any when i went but i haven't been since 2012. fuck that shit if true

I've heard three different people telling me they got rumbled by dogs on the way in. Seems daft putting dogs on the door, because judging by the people that I know who go there, it's for people who love drugs. Arrest everybody with drugs and there's nobody left for the festival.

i'd heard that security may have been tightened in the past few years but thought it was just your usual scare story bollocks, but you're dead right - Bestival seems like it was designed for drug takers. gonna have to be extra cautious if i do decide to go

Seems daft putting dogs on the door,

Hampshire Police being ott unfortunately. Guy got busted right next to me on the hill of doom down into the campsite by a police dog.

Then again four minutes before a security guard let a couple in with two bottles of glass sparkling wine.

Yes. They had a couple of large tents for thorough (sometimes strip) searches. Only heard of people getting busted for weed tho.

No it's not.

Buy an open return rail ticket to Ryde Pier & you're sorted, walk straight on the slow cat from Portsmouth. Shuttle bus to site.

Open ticket... rock up anytime to return on Monday, no pressure. Ok a bit of queuing, but it doesn't matter what cat or train to catch.

Unless you want to drive which is unnecessary & stupidly expensive.

Ta for the tip - I've tried and failed four times with getting home from best quickly!

Get a Saturday day ticket for latitude. Portishead will be absolutely miles and miles better than anything on show at Glastonbury this year

Portishead were stunningly good at Electric Picnic last year.

Can ye believe that the two people I'm going with have described Portishead as "dull"!? Unbelievable, luckily, the BBC6 headliners are some indie landfill bollocks that no reasonable human being would consider watching, so they're going to be eating their words.

Bjork tonight, Modest Mouse on Tuesday, Portishead in a few weeks. Not a bad life is it? (Got no fucking money, tho).

Come on down to beautiful Dorset in early September for The End Of The Road. Lovely setting (the Garden Stage is probably one of the best stage settings of the festival scene, great food and fantastic selection of beers/cider etc.

And what a line up this year:

Looking foward to Beat-herder in a couple of weeks. Ideal antidote to glasto - a great small party.

there's a few of us going to that as well, really looking forward to it after hearing good things, Leftfield added as headliner recently too.

What's the security like there? Any dogs or heavy searches etc going on?

Yay great news about Leftfield - I hadn't heard. I planned to see them last week but it didn't happen so well chuffed about that.

There are searches going in from the camp-sites (and I think because of the layout campervanners have two gates/potential search-points to go through). Not that heavy though from what I've seen and I don't recall seeing dogs. Take extra care if you're a teen and see you in the social club :)

I'm also going to this (barring absolute train hell, which is currently what it looks like!) and it's a lot of fun!

Been 4 times before - it's very friendly, but nothing is on the scale of Glastonbury! It's only 5,000 people. Not a lot going on after main acts have finished - silent disco and some busking stages but it's well worth the £90 odd for a weekend ticket. If the Thirssay early entry wasn't sold it already I'd recommend getting that as well.

Also seconding Latitude. Not as friendly as Glasto, but lovely nonetheless and a lot more than the music going on. Stellar comedy line up plus dance and poetry and literature and everything else!

Good for you if you like it - but it's not really anything like Glasto is it?
