BBC live coverage on red button

i'm the opposite, for years i've been watching it on red button/online, and now this is the first year that i'll be over in the UK at the festival.

as said above, those 6 stages, with most of the acts. they don't start until afternoon, so sometimes you'll miss the first act or 2 on a stage (The War on Drugs last year on Pyramid for example), and some acts won't be broadcast in full/at all (Skrillex, M.I.A. last year).

from what I can remember, online is the closest to live that you'll get. the Red Button streams aren't live as they'll often fill up the time between sets by re-showing an act from the day before or earlier in the day, and then that pushes out whatever is currently happening, so that gets shown on a bit of a delay.

overall though it's quite good if you're a fan of acts that will be on those stages.

the actual live BBC TV coverage is ok, a song or 2 here and there from different acts that day, then usually several from the headliners live-ish. i usually just stick with Red Button/streams though, as you can choose which performances you want and aren't stuck with whatever is being shown at the time.

just write off the weekend, get some booze, takeaway and snacks in, and stretch out for 3 nights!

Last year was much better than previous. I found live coverage online of Park Stage and other stage really good with whole sets. I was gutted they didn't show War on Drugs on pyramid though and no coverage of acoustic stage at all. 8/10 good but could do better

Having watched masses online last year, johnny, I can tell you that the online coverage is really excellent.

The model is:

- central camera behind the crowd (from the sound desk, presumably) whilst the stage is changed from band to band.

- as soon as the band come on stage the direction changes to the multiple fixed and hand held cameras, but with no annoying commentary. Just the band's set, most of them in full.

- as soon as the band finishes, the camera reverts to that central fixed shot behind the crowd, looking at the stage...until the next band comes on, and repeat!

The best thing is that it doesn't matter at what time you join the live stream, you can move the timeline back and forward to any point from the beginning of the stream (as others have said, early afternoon for most stages) to the current time. You can pause to go for a wee, make a cup of tea, and come back and resume.

It was FANTASTIC!

I honestly believe I saw as much on at least one of the days, as I would have seen during the same period had I been there! Yoko Ono - extraordinary performance!

And you can ping from stage to stage all the time, not spend an hour getting from JPT to The Park.

Obviously I'm sorry you're not going, but I reckon I'd be watching too if I wasn't there.

Last year almost every act on those stages were screened. Skrillex was the one major one I remember that they didn't show.

Skrillex was shown by BBC

Does anyone know if they have cameras/record much of the other stages outside those 6? To have up on the website not to stream live etc of course. Particularly interested in the Left Field stage.

Nah the BBC wouldn't dare show the Left Field, too scared of the Tories.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
