Hangovers

I'm fine with comedowns. I like the weirdness of them. Hangover on the other hand rights me off completely.

Slow and steady wins the race.

This!

I don't think there's really any quick remedy. It's all subjective, some things work for others and some dont

Yeah, I mean I've had my fair share of bad comedowns, but they're nothing in comparison to my worst hangovers. I can go about my daily business on a bad comedown but a bad hangover puts me out of commission Edited by FloorFiller

Would I be right in saying hangovers / comedowns go hand in hand? I have never had a night on pharmaceuticals alone so usually any sort of hangover is a mix of booze / other goodies. But nearly every time it's still never been as bad as a booze only hangover. The dreamy kind of comedown I can live with but the putrid 'I want to kill myself' booze hangover is the worst

What does 5-HTP do? and where can i find these electrolyte tablets?

i'd get some of the electrolyte tablets that are designed for heavy exercise. get them online. high5 is probably the cheapest. they're all pretty similar, perhaps the maxifuel electrotabs have the biggest range of minerals. i used them during/after the london marathon on sunday and after each heavy night boozing and it works for me. take one before bed and have one made up for when you wake up during the night. it'll help.

5-htp is for if you take pills, and you need to be careful with it anyway.

When I first started taking pick me ups. I'd only drink up until I took them and then just drank water which seemed to make me feel better the next day or I was young and didn't suffer from them as bad. Now i drink throughout which i don't think does me any favours. Mixing is fine but the trick is to stop drinking at a reasonable time and drink plenty of water before going to bed. Through no fault of my own i often drink right up until the end which is asking for trouble.

I do this. I tend to drink during the day, maybe have a cheeky sniff of something perky, then switch to the more chemical based things in the evening and water!

hear, hear.

i just can't control myself and end up drinking ridiculous amounts.

Amen!

I've got to rein it in a bit this year. I haven't done a multi day festival with camping for a few years now and i have noticeably started suffering the day after a lot since. I don't want me being stupid to ruin my Glasto so GF is on strict instructions to not let me get ruthless with it. We'll see how much attention i pay to that.

Saturday morning was a bit of a write off for me last year. Had a heavy night of drinking on Thursday and a mix on Friday night with very little sleep. Was fine for getting up and about but was cradling a bottle of water and couldn't stomach eating for a few hours. Twas a fantastic night up at the Park and Block 9 so was worth it in a way but will definitely be aware of intake this year

Hahaha! I would say you live and learn but we never do. No doubt we'll be back here in July saying never again.

I'm another for the drinking solely in the day and then drugging solely at night crew. I usually stick to it - once I'm at a certain level of wired any type of flavoured drink makes me feel ill, so water and lots of chewing gum it is! But I also usually allow myself one day/night of solely drinking (thinking Friday this year) to allow my seretonin to reboot, and the following day is usually the one I feel the worst as im far more prone to forgetting my paracetamol/dioralyte/water mix when absolutely hammered

Dioralyte = branded product of electrolyte drink, sometimes flavoured - expensive sold as diarrhea aid

High-5 = branded product of electrolyte drink, flavoured, less expensive

Electrolyte tablets = unflavoured barely branded cheap as chips

these are what i got - 180 tabs/drinks for under £7 or almost that per tube for the high-five type with 12 tabs or so

they're all designed to replace the salts that your body loses through water leaving it, replacing that with pure water isn't good and doesn't work well - it's probably what took out leah betts and the source of lots of folks mysterious headaches and ills trying to do their christ-knows-how-many made up pints per day.

dehydrations a very big part of your hangover, worse from drinking and dancing and sweating - knock a pint of juice and a couple of those tabs down and it's like nothing happened 20 mins later, or wiped out in 2010 type heat it avoids a lot of head-spinny nonsense and aches

absolutely absurd claim. it will have done absolutely nothing in 20 mins, your body will have absorbed absolutely bugger all.

they are a wise tool for brutal hangovers - they'll help you hydrate, but they won't actually blow any hangover away. if you're smart, you'll take one before bed and one when you get up to piss after half a night's sleep. and another when you're up. then you'll be in a better way.

Woah woah woah. These electrolyte tablets are actual tablets and not dissolvable stuff? This is a revelation. I may add them to my pre-bedtime hangover prevention step, that I probably won't do anyway.

Dioralyte would always make me vomit and choosing between drinking in the long drops or vomming in a bag in my tent was never an easy one. Incidentally, the harder the vomit the more it worked.

Happy you think that. Carry on.

Or try it with me - here's a pint of whiskey, you down that and come back to me in twenty minutes and we'll discuss again.

I would imagine it is tablets in the same sense that berocca are tablets, still effervescent as far as I know

Nope just big tablets, they're on the large side but you neck 'em and drink 500ml water. Maybe jump around. Jump. Jump. Etc.

5-htp will help with a comedown, but won't do anything for a hangover, alcohol doesn't deplete serotonin (5-HP).

Do 5-HTP help with the groggyness you get the day after taking MD or do they help with the lows you get a few days after dropping?

So weird how people differ, ive had to write off whole weeks before because of a hard comedown. I'd much rather 24hrs of headache & sick than unmeasurable tiredness & depression. Still it's normally manageable.
