Hidden bits

Last year was my first year and I had the best time ever. I got a real feeling for where everything is and managed to hit most of the site however I never found any secret hidden areas that i read about.

Are most of these in the SE corner?

The Rabbit Hole is up in The Park, and some other 'secret areas' such as the Bar of (bad) Ideas (or whatever is was called) have been in the fields up around that end of the site.

The stone dragon is in what used to be called Dragon Field - it's the field to the right of the stone circle when you look at the site map.

Other random but brilliant things seem to pop up all over the place each year. I think there's a tunnel in the railway embankment that gets decorated and stuff like that.

There's also always loads of little secret(ish) venues around Shangri-La etc.

Were you looking for any area in particular?

Not really although i read on here about a phonebooth that you went through in shangri-la a few years back.

I've seen pictures of the railway tunnel but didn't manage to bump into it last year.

There is a tunnel from Greenpeace field that goes under the old railway track through to Green Futures.

The undergound piano bar is up by the fence in the next field to the stone circle.

There are a few hidden places in the Green Fields, lots in Shangrila, some i'm never sure if they are crew areas or public areas.

The RabbitHole is the most well known one, so not really a secret anymore and because of that there is queue to get in most of the time.

I wouldn't stress about finding them though as some of them swap and change around from year to year.....I wouldn't spend an evening looking for a non existent secret bar that when you are in there isn't much different to lots of the other non secret areas,

A fair amount of the "hidden" gems are transient and are only there in a particular year, but there are some things that tend to be there consistently. The likes of the dragon and the tunnel are permanent. The "underground" piano bar up in the dragon field has been there consistently over the last few years, as has the rabbit hole in the Park. Some of the bars have secret lounges behind them. This does tend to happen in the SE corner more so than anywhere else, as far as I can make out, but the bar in Bellas Field had one last year I recall

Yeah, I've always just found queues at the more famous 'secret' bits. The random things you just stumble across are always the best as they have the element of surprise :)

That being said, I'm totally trying to find the rock bar in Shangri-La this year (if it's still there!).

In the Unfairground in 2013 we went into one of the bars, got ushered through this hole in the wall and into a tube, we assume we were heading into some magical secret area, as it happened we emerged on top of a platform, climbed down some steps and discovered that we were in actual fact just the other side of the wall, a wall which you could just walk round to get into the bar.

What? I was in that bar last year and never found this! Definitely going back, it was a great venue.

When I was there the entrance to the shed was through the back via a secret passage towards the back of the garden. They might have been doing different things on different nights though.

Strummerville used to be relatively hidden near Shangri La, easy to miss the entrance as there was no sign, but then moved out into the open near Glasto Latino last year (And much less interesting as a consequence in my opinion), apparently now going to be moved elsewhere.

Best for some secret gigs, and fireside chat.

Taking to a chap who deals with infrastructure at GFL, aparely the woods near the stones will be a bit more than just that this year. Putting a bar or something in there.

First visit in 2013 I seemed to end up in loads of these without trying. Last year was desperate to go to more and failed to end up in any whatsoever except the pop-up ballroom thing that was somewhere in the railway embankment that i can't really recall very well.

Definitely need to find some more this year, and spend more time in SE Corner when not totally hammered.

There is another entry into the towerblock in bloc9 which was very very cool, its shown in this

1st time at Glastonbury this year, this is a very exciting thread. In the video and else where on the forum there is sometimes a requirement for getting in ('tache, tattoo etc). Question 1 is do these requirements change each year and question 2 if they don't, is there a list of things you should bring with you like a fake moustache and tattoo sleeve (for example), question 3 (last one) if they change each year, how do you find out about them? Word of mouth?

If you need something to get in, they will sell it to you on the door and give the money to charity so no need to worry bringing anything.

The requirements don't change usually, but the place that asks for a tattoo (Snake Pit) isn't going to be there this year and there may well be a new bar that asks for something similar.

Aaaah, it's clips like those that really get me in the mood for glastonbury. The satisfaction those set builders must get when it all comes together must be immense.

I've heard of places you can only get into if you are wearing a tweed jacket in the past. I need to have a good night in the common area of the south east corner. Normally.by the time I get there, queues everywhere in there, and shangri-la, so I head straight to the unfairground and can usually get straight into everywhere with no problems at all
