Exactly. These things matter to the average punter. I was mightily pissed off that Michael Jackson died when he did the selfish bastard. He had loads of people booked!!

Can see why they want to do it from a British point of view being their last tour, don't get me started on MJ cancelling all those sold out shows! Look at how much money he's made since he kicked it as well!! Selfish I tell ya

And they offered that we could keep the tickets as a souvenir rather than getting the money back! Not likely! Edited by Curlygirl

We were at beechenhurst lodge today so not far, we usually go over that way usually beechenhurst or canop ponds but when we camp we stay at bracelands.

I know Bracelands well - their shop stocks some of my products :-)

If you like 'proper' walking off the beaten track let me know and I could take you out to see what we might see if you wanted.

But Neil said it could be true?

I know and it is almost certainly true - but GC on FB is utter garbage with so many trolls posting their insider knowledge I left.

A serious amount of real rubbish on there - but my sarcasm failed to show itself in the written word, as is quite normal :sarcastic:

but as I said above, I shall wait to hear the reasons etc before deciding if anyone is thoughtless etc

I know most of what they post is garbage but I looked into this one. It seems pretty promising.

Would love to Lucy. I'd like to bring a uke too, but won't because I really don't have the capacity, travelling Ninja-Light and on the coach. Maybe someone will have brought one. I don't do cheesy, but love singing/playing with people who actually can! I know that sounds mega-snobby, but I think you know what I mean ;)

Ben

We'll have to see if we can commandear (sp?) one for a bit! And yes, I know what you mean :)

I think I'll do the same Matty, I'm not convinced by all this. I'm not a fan of the who and didn't hang around for them in 2007. It doesn't make any sense to cancel 2 nights in Paris to attend gf.

To be fair to the forum, almost everyone, even those acknowledging that they will probably go see The Who, are united in decrying it as a really shitty thing to do. Mrs Ben and I have spent many a long day indoctrinating our three in the morals of making, and honouring, commitments. "Yes, George, I know that the party sounds really fun, and that 'everyone' will be there, but you have committed previously to playing for your football team, and they're counting on you, so that's really what you should do, isn't it?".

There's a heartbreaking link to an email from a guy from BRAZIL, contacting the Ffrench venue for clarification as he's booked his flight, accommodation etc. for that gig. And another post on The Who forum from January from a British guy who, at the time, could not contain his joy that he would be watching his favourite band, in Paris, on the day of his 50th birthday.

Just a rude and disrespectful way to treat the people who are the sole reason that they find themselves in such a position of privilege. No fans = no band, gents.

(a bit cross) Ben

So agree Ben, from a not happy simon

Sounds like you've had a good weekend, where are you adventuring at next weekend?

It certainly is a difficult one, Ben.

As you say, almost everyone has said they dislike the way their fans are being treated. The question then becomes what to do about it.

You've said on other threads that you're not interested in seeing them anyway, so your choice is quite easy, but what about those who would be interested?

I'm what you'd call a 'greatest hits' fan of The Who, I've heard a few albums, but only own the singles. In normal circumstances I'd be pretty chuffed at them being announced, as I'd never normally pay their ticket prices to see them, but this situation with the Paris gigs gives me a dilemma. If I go to see them, I may well enjoy it, but it may leave a 'sour taste in the mouth'. On the other hand, if I don't go on principle, I miss what will almost certainly be my only chance to see them live, what my Nan would call 'cutting off my nose to spite my face'.

I very much doubt the number of people opting to stay away as a protest will have a huge impact on the crowd size, so the band, and the festival, are unlikely to notice any discontent. Most of the crowd won't even be aware of the cancelled gigs, and many who are will still go anyway.

I think, for the moment, all I can do is wait and see. Firstly, wait and see if they are indeed playing glasto. Second, wait and see if they do something out of the ordinary to recompense the fans who are losing out due to the cancelled Paris gigs. Finally, wait and see if any other act that is a 'must see' for me is headlining another stage that night, which could make my decision easier!

Anyway, time to catch some zeds I think. Wonder if we'll get another announcement tomorrow. Seems a popular guess, before refund date and the election. Fingers crossed, I'd like some more names to salivate over!

Night all :)

    • Had a lovely day in Prague now off to the festival. Very excited hope we all have fun regardless of weather!!
    • Iran are winning. If US aren't going to do the full invasion thing, then they may as well admit defeat and do what is needed to get the strait opened. Iran obviously have decided they can take any pain and stick it out as they have all the cards with this Hormuz thing. But obviously Trump can't admit defeat, and Israel just want this to keep going...and maybe it will carry on like this till after elections in both US and Israel towards the end of this year. God knows how the global economy will be by then.
    • All kicking off in N Ireland, all aided and abetted on videos that get circulated on social media and Elon Musk and Tommy Robinson telling people to take to the streets. Social media needs regulating same as publishers, if they have algorithms that push whatever to people then they are effectively publishers anyway. The problem is just going to get worse and worse.
