What sort of mileage life do you get out of T25 and T5's if you don't mind?

We did East camper fields, I'd summarise:

1 if you arrive by Tuesday lunchtime you can get a spot 5 minutes walk to Gate C

2 you gain the Tuesday afternoon, we had a BBQ

3 Gate C is easy to get into Wednesday morning, by far the best in my experience

4 there's a great view of the festival site

5 you get a good, unbroken sleep, and enjoy the daytime better

6 no hassle, little to carry into the festival

7 you can bring much more of your own drink and food with you

Of course there's downsides, mainly in missing out being camped within the festival. So once back at the camper field, it's not the same atmosphere.

We bought a used Citroen relay and converted it into a campervan for 5k in total. Great to come back to a cuppa, double bed and our own toilet.

Anyone thinking of hiring a camper, I would seriously suggest trawling eBay and the like just before Christmas. Lots of cheap deals to be had and then it's all yours as opposed to a weekly rental.

We started with a big tent, graduated to a trailer tent, one year hired a motorhome and have now settled on a caravan, campervan and trailer tent combination for our group.

Of the three I favour either the trailer tent or caravan. Most space and big communal/social area with a decent awning. Also you don't have the insurance/maintenance costs of a campervan, which can be a lot unless you use it for every day transport.

Getting CV field tickets on balance day was a worry. But had we failed I'm not sure I could have gone back to a tent with all the lugging from the car park to your pitch. The joy of the CV Fields, apart from being able to arrive from midday on Tuesday, is that you have everything with you and just set up where you are. Our gang did enjoy having a flush toilet in the caravan but we did most of our cooking in the trailer tent which had the most spacious kitchen area.

The couple in our gang with the campervan just used it for sleeping as a campervan ain't much more than a small tent on wheels.

I'm not too sure about the economics of renting. My caravan, which is a 4 berth with toilet, hot shower and full kitchen cost £4,500 second hand. It only has to last a few festivals and it will work out a lot cheaper than hiring. Plus you have use of it for other holidays and weekend breaks.

The trailer tent, which has put in great service was to have 'retired' this year as I have bought a caravan and my co-owner is converting a camper. But the work wasn't completed in time so the trailer tent was wheeled out again and proved to be invaluable.

It is now finally up for sale. PM me if anyone is interested.

We're keeping ours. We've had it 2 years now, and do about 5 or 6 festivals a year. Plus the odd weekend at the coast.

We might change up at some point, but we will always have a van of some sort. No going back to tents now. We're far too old. ;-)>

CV is unbeatable if you ask me, so many positives:

- Proper brekky in the van, saves money, so much better than on-site offerings.

- Plentiful ice-cold drinks, snacks etc on hand at your camp throughout the festival

- Private shower and toilet, absolutely priceless, all your usual toiletries etc

- Clean clothes hanging in the wardrobe not mashed up in your rucksack

- Huge communal area outside van with shade, table/chairs, BBQ etc.

- Comfy seating/table in warm van to sit around when you get back early hours

- Decent sound system for campsite tunes

- Charge your phone from the leisure battery

- Big comfy bed, duvet, pillows

- Darkness and no tent heat in the mornings = proper nice sleep

- No lugging your stuff on/off site

- Privacy, nobody unzipping or falling on your tent in the night

- More secure than tents, fully lockable

- Loads of boot space to bring whatever you want with you (e.g. massive coolbox full of beers)

- Arrive earlier / leave later

- No queuing outside the gate

Negatives:

- long walk in/out of site each day (more predictable from west side)

- cost

The walk in/out of site doesn't really bother us. Once we're in for the day that's it until early hours, we've never been ones for going back and forth to our camp.

We looked into hiring but were put off by the prices so decided to buy a second hand motorhome and use it for Glastonbury and family holidays, which are now much cheaper and the savings more than offset the depreciation/maintenance. It's not for everyone, but our kids love it and so do we - best thing we ever bought really.

Bugger that, I paid £2K for my Transit in 2009.

Got fully working cooker, hobs and oven, double or two singles, led lights, fully carpeted and insulated. Laminate floor and loads of storage, awning.

And best of all, you can stand up in side it

admittedly getting out this year was very painful, almost 5 hours to get off site. Last year we rolled straight off though, it's all about timing your departure though

Having stayed at Worthy View ourselves this year and reading your reasons for not liking the CV field I seriously doubt that WV would be for you either.

The hill to camp for a start makes the "hill of death" pale into insignificance, seriously it IS tough. Then there's the noise, that's not from your fellow campers because there was little atmosphere and that side is very peaceful. The noise comes from the moving of Arcadia right onto the doorstep of WV. Luckily we took earplugs but it does go on right through the night (of course!). Great if that's your thing and liveable if its not and you come prepared but it is V loud all through the night there trust me

Hmm Never thought about Arcadia, dont think I would like that all night. Could be ill have to put up with the campervan. . Did look at staying offsite, a few good places very near,but getting there and back every day is not worth the effort.

My T25 has a VW Golf 1.9tdi engine from a 1995 model fitted and i get 30-40 mpg,

was that done by a geezer in Bristol? I spoke to someone once about the possibility of doing similar to my own van.

No it was a bloke in Scarborough, the engine cost £250 and labour, he changed the crank bearings and did a bit of preventative maintenance and i think it was about £600 all in.

from what i can gather quite a few VW engines will fit the T25 and as they slope you just have to change the sump over.
