Mobile for a fiver

Thought this might be worth sharing...

O2 have a Nokia 100 handset they're selling for £5 with a free PAYG sim card that looks like it'll do the job of a temporary festival phone rather nicely. I've been able to get it for free using a cashback site too!

From the link it's the first option '3G pay and go go go' (it says £10 next to it but that's for a monthly contract) - https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/prepaysims/nokia/100-pink/?cmm_mmc=affiliate-_-47868-_-blank-_-blank

...and even better, if you have a Quidco cashback account already you can use the link below to take you to the o2 website so it tracks the sale and get £5 cashback so the phone is essentially free!

http://www.quidco.com/o2-mobiles/ (£5 for PAYG link on left)

Yes it's pink ( :devil: ) but for a free festival phone I can deal with that! If anyone's interested I can let you know how long it takes for the cashback to arrive. Has anyone else found any bargains?

edit - the transaction has appeared in my Quidco account straight away so it's looking good to be a total freebie!!

I own one but not in Pink - its with me as a spare for my own phone { both lasts me the whole seven days without needing a charge }
Big Warning - do not force the back cover - many people complain its near impossible to remove but there is a knack to it
I am right handed so all I do is
hold the phone with two hands with the back facing me and the screen in my right hand I push my thumb to the left and that's it
I am sure some of you will be wondering what all the fuss is about - well I bet you don't own that phone -
Before you use it - remove the back ten or so times as it will make it easier - I can do it with just one hand.
My one is unlocked - it was on special offer
I tried the phone out with a Virgin and Vodafone 2G PAYG SIM card and both networks were available { please note I used a mini-SIM or 2FF (2nd Form Factor) The next version is the micro-SIM or 3FF (3rd Form Factor) and you would need a adaptor for that to work }
I have a few minor points but overall its a delight to use and the well spaced out key pad makes sending a text easy.
Sadly some menus are not so easy to reach - I hate predictive text
To switch off predictive text - select Menu > Messages > Create message, the message editor is opened, then select Options > Dictionary > select ' Dictionary off.'
to turn it back on its all above but at the last stage just select English.
if you are like me who requires a larger font then go to
Menu > Messages > Message settings > Font size.
if you are reading a message when you look at it only shows the actual message but I discovered by pressing the Scroll key the screen will flip and the time/date details are there .
No mention of this in the instruction book.
note Menu > Contacts > settings > Contacts view - you then have the option to change the list - select Names list and it will now display six names if you pick name and number it will only display three names.
I have seen this phone locked to Virgin at £24 so its a steal at the price I paid.
Niggles - its not perfect - as it has such a long battery life I would prefer the display to stay on longer than it does - it will only do it for 30 seconds and I have not found a switch where I can extend it - sure pressing any key will light it Back up but there should be a switch so that the user can set it to how they prefer.
I would still be using it now but my Older brother offered to buy me a sw*nky Doro Phone Easy 615 Unlocked phone which has a bigger keyboard { which is double the size of the Nokia 100 { Amazon list it as Nokia 100 RH-130CV }

Yeah the backs are a pain in the arse until you get used to them. I find it easier to put pressure at the sides when taking it off, otherwise you're just pressing/bending the plastic if you use the centre. (Hope that makes sense). As mentioned above, i need a nano-sim adapter (main phone is an iPhone). Get them on eBay for 99p delivered.

I'm taking this one for keeping in touch with everyone onsite but will be taking my smartphone as well (switched off in the lockups except for checking on here / twitter now and again). It just seems a bit of a faff to me switching sim cards round, just make sure everyone has each others temporary numbers as well as usual ones then even if the cheap phone gets lost/broken it's no great loss.

As the phone is locked to O2 and the minimum top up is £10 I reckon anyone who is not an existing O2 customer it would be better to get a cheapo from whoever their current mobile is with and use your existing sim. Pretty much every supplier has a similar phone for ~ £10.
