Yeah - there's a train station right beside it. I'd be planning on travelling by public transport and still kipping in my own bed on the other side of the country. If I miss the last train there's buses to Edinburgh through the night.

It'd be different for anyone coming from up north, but the central belt is one big populous conurbation and the Hydro's right slap bang in the middle of it, and a tenner's taxi journey from anywhere in a city of 600k people.

well, that sounds like it's better than I expected - but the others probably aren't as well served.

And the Hop Farm is probably similar, with 600k people not much more than tenner's taxi journey away. It's only a few miles from motorways, its not as remote as it might sound.

1 - Prince will sell out these gigs.

2 - Prince won't be playing Glastonbury.

3 - Prince has lots of fans who will pay these prices.

4 - Lots of people don't like Prince. and they won't pay these prices.

I'm am 100% confident of all points above with maybe the exception of point 2, of which I am 99.99% sure about.

I assumed, with the whole 'turn down/don't respond' to Glastonbury or Hyde Park, he'd have something major in the works. But this? This was his plan? £70+ for two weeks notice is going to be a big ask as well, particularly outside of London.

Interesting that he has chosen to play a 20,000+ arena in Manchester after the unsuccessful attempt to put on multiple shows at the academy in the winter too.

Surely he would have made more money out of Hyde Park than four arena shows?

With regards to how easy it is to get to/from those Prince dates, someone else's already covered the Glasgow one, so I'll just tick off the others:

After the Birmingham gig (assuming an 11pm curfew, which is relatively standard), there are trains between 2315 and 2359 heading to Birmingham; Rugby, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Watford & London; Coventry. That should cover most bases for the surrounding area of that gig.

After the Manchester gig, people would likely have to trek across the city to Piccadilly, or to the coach station, but they should be able to get back by train to Huddersfield/Leeds/York (although why bother, he's playing Leeds anyway), and to Liverpool by coach.

I have to admit, it's the Leeds gig that confuses the hell out of me. I'd've personally felt that Leeds was well covered by Manchester (in as much as people can get back to Leeds after a gig in Manchester).

If I were a short, purple-loving bloke playing a few overpriced gigs in the UK, I have to admit that I'd've binned off Leeds, and looked to add either Cardiff or London, or both.

For what Its worth and very little it seems now the Metallica rumour is all but confirmed or so it would seem...

I actually still think Prince is going to play Glastonbury this year.. I have nothing concrete to go on, but it all seems such a strange coincidence, he's gonna be selling out a tour this week with his band (biggest selling band in the world at the moment) and Glastonbury is releasing the lineup beginning of May because of contractual issues.

This would be just like the diva of a musical genius, he'd never agree on the terms it can be publicised, risk his purple rain party going pear shaped? No chance.

Now it may seem I'm doing bad math, but this year with Glastonbury 2+2 really does = 5 why else would they choose such an ugly design for a lineup poster. I can see Radiohead turning up on the park stage one evening and I can still see Prince headlining the pyramid on the Saturday night.

That's what makes Glastonbury special they have a budget to play with and enjoy a surprise or three. Arcade fire and kasabian I'd imagine negotiated pretty low so there is still plenty in the kitty to intrigue us elsewhere.

I got it wrong last year and partly feel to blame for fuelling the park stage daft punk rumour but you win some you lose some, was still a great time meeting new people in the largest ever crowd for absolutely nobody.

So fingers crossed it all falls into place, a purple army alive in anticipation on a Saturday afternoon, with the arcade fire fans on a morning after still in full attire, a spectacular sight to behold.

Until it's confirmed otherwise, I'm going to dream.. Not just for the festival but the people of Britain need to wake up and see real musical genius on a Saturday night, they can then be better prepared to judge the garbage they vote for each week on reality tv shows.

And we need to experience one of the greatest musical performances the world has ever seen Live from the pyramid stage!

There's free dates at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff in mid-to-late May. Perhaps he just wanted to see the Leeds nightlife instead.

thing is, you're only covering the major towns, and there's around the same sized population in the countryside with no trains.

And even for those towns the train is only any good if the train station is within walking distance. Once you've got into your car, you might as well be driving all the way in many respects.

The Hop Farm is damned awkward for Londoners, but only because they're used to having everything on their doorstep. For the rest of the country, that sort of thing is normal life - and so Hop Farm isn't actually that awkward. That's what I'm trying to get at!

In which case, the Birmingham venue is perfect. It's right next to the airport, there's a metric f***-ton (or is it an imperial f***-tonne?) of parking -- something like 25,000 spaces, and it's right on the motorway network.

Yeah, we all meant the NEC (named for sponsorship) LG Arena. But yes. That one. That's the venue that has the biggest catchment of the 4 he's doing, I think.
